Keith at Aylesbury Crown Court
Posted by: Harlem Shuffler ()

Just wondering if anyone on this site, apart from my humble self, went to see Keith on trial.
Mick and Les Perrin were also in the public gallery and Ian Stewart gave evidence about the "organised chaos" on the road.
There was also a woman there who just might have been Anita. If it was Anita, she'd changed somewhat from the pictures I'd seen of her.
This was the first time I'd seen any of the Stones "in the flesh" rather than in concert and I got Keith and Mick to sign my copy of Beggars Banquet. Little did I think when I first bought it that one day the Glimmer Twins would be holding it in their hands.
I met the other members of the band later and have a fairly interesting story to tell about Keith at Redlands which I'll save for another time.

i believe Harlem Shuffler's referring to the january 1977 trial, which was at a different venue
than the 1967 trial that the photo Edith Grove posted is connected with.

here's a photo from the january 77 trial:

Yep - nice one Harlem Shuffler

Was Perrin still working for The Stones at that point?
I think I picked up somewhere that Knebworth a few months earlier had been his last assignment

Vilhelm honey, thanks for that link, but the january 1977 trial was in England,
and it resulted from a bust that had taken place in 76, when some substances were found Keith's car.
it preceded the Toronto bust by about six weeks. Keith was having a time

Harlem Shuffler, i'm glad i got the date & illustration right;
and yeah Edith Grove, that is a mighty fine-lookin Keith photo, so it's good of you to leave it up for us :E

Thanks to everyone for their information and appreciation. I am encouraged to add a little more detail.
It wasn't the best of circumstances to ask for autographs but when would I get the opportunity again? I always thought that Keith and Mick would be cool about it but thinking is one thing and doing is another.
It was a nervous Harlem Shuffler who watched Keith lighting up a Marlboro in the car and emerge from it with Sir Michael Havers, QC.
I ran up the steps ahead of the defendant and hoped by the time he'd got there I'd have summoned the necessary courage.
A fan standing next to me called out, "Good luck, Keith". Keith turned and said, "Thanks" and then moved into the court building while the rest of us stood in awe or simply wondering what to do next.
"It's now or never," I thought and ran after Keith asking him if he'd sign the album.
"Yes, if you've got a pen," he replied.
I'd got a pen alright. Keith signed and I also wished him good luck.
After that, it was up to the public gallery and, if memory serves,Les Perrin ( I'm almost certain it was him,Sohoe but I'm happy to be proved wrong if anyone knows for sure) was already there along with "Anita" (definitely not sure about her identity).
Enter one Mick Jagger with ,apparently,John Phillips - not that I was aware who he was at the time - who initially sat down on a bench. Feeling more confident, I dared to approach him with my request. There were still people coming in to get a seat and I had to move away a little to let them pass so I didn't get a chance to say any more to Mick other than to thank him.
Well, I got a little carried away there.
BTW, I will tell relate my other Keith story soon, Edith Grove. I'll try not to make it too long and some people won't believe it, not because it's such an amazing story - it isn't - but it may seem a little far-fetched.I will say that it involves a firearm and assure you it is true.

Didn't they find a tab of acid on him/in his car? Very strange as I wouldn't have thought he have taken acid as late as this. Anyone know anything more?

Hey Harlem, I wasn't questioning your memory re Les Perrin. I was just wondering whether he was there as a private person showing his support or if he was still working for the band - hence him being present. And if the latter was the case, I was just hoping someone would have pointed out the facts about when Perrin's tenure ended

Looking forward to the other story of yours

Spanish Tony knew, maybe.. Nah, he left before that..
But: Mixed addiction, very common.
Addictive natures often takes what they get.
And if ya're Keef R. and its late 70s, I cant really see any limits.

nope, that was in Toronto: different venue, different attorney, same Keith.
the photos do get mislabelled a lot, as do the ones from the 78 and 79 court appearances,
but here's the march 77 Toronto scenario:

>> Didn't they find a tab of acid on him/in his car? <<

yeah, in addition to some coke. he asserted that the acid wasn't his and that he was unaware of it,
and if i recall right the court accepted that. as you say, by all accounts he wasn't into acid very long,
and the "taking whatever comes along" stereotype doesn't really fit Keith.

Man, Keith does not look too good in those photos, he was really showing the effects of his addiction at that point it looks like. How did he look up close Harlem, do you recall, did he not look so well, or is it just the photographs?

Isn't that sidewhisker dude Tom Keylock? Perrin was bald, wasn'the?

Doesn't look like Tom Keylock to me Beaver. I think it's more likely to be his defence counsel.
