Hello, You're right, BV, off course. But the Stones are in the process of steadily losing the huge stock of goodwill they have built up amongst their fans. It is of course unrealistic to expect them to put on free shows, but for people of their wealth to charge the prices they do is, in my opinion, immoral, when there is no justifiable need for them to do so. Of course we don't have to

Hello, Elvis is the master. No question. Mick acknowledges his influence in the opening few minutes of 25x5. As mad as it is to say it of someone so massively famous, influential and well-regarded as Elvis; not enough people are aware of either the breadth of his talent or some of his music. He is the master. I am a fan. Declan

QuoteDuane in Houston I became a big fan of Bowie AND Ronson upon hearing Ziggy Stardust and absolutely loved Ronsons studio work. However it became apparent to me after hearing and seeing the last Spiders show in London AND hearing the recent release of Live in Santa Monica '72 that Ronson's live work was much more shambolic than the studio stuff. Probably because he's trying to do the Hendrix t

Hello, Can't agree with that, 24FPS, if you're being serious. I've always thought the bass on HTW, from the instrumental onwards, is quite excellent. Drives the song brilliantly. I accept that it isn'y very long, but it is great. Declan

Hello all, I remember reading recently about an exhibition soon to start in London of the Stones '71/'72 era. I've trawled the internet but I can't find anything. I know it isn't the 50th Anniversary exhibition at Somerset House. Can anyone enlighten me? Thank you, Declan

If you've only got two or three days, then you'll need to choose wisely, but it really depends on whether you'd like to see obvious and famous places (Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, The Tower and Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, St.Paul's Cathedral), or Stones sites, or get a feel instead for real life in London. One of my favourite things to do is just walk around, and I

I've always loved that. First heard it in a club in London and I was well taken with it. (And that's the best place to hear it - really loud in a club.) Ace. Declan

As someone's mentioned Roger Daltrey on here; a friend of mine saw him getting off the tube at South Kensington station (closest stop to the Albert Hall) on the afternoon of one of the Teenage Cancer Trust shows he puts on. He wasn't playing that night, but he was there to introduce the acts, I believe. Top man. Declan

How on earth can a man of seventy-odd years of age sing for three hours - largely upbeat, energetic songs to boot - and then come back the following night and do the same again? Phenomenal. What a geezer. Declan

I love them. My feeling is that they exemplify what we often believe to be true of the most special bands: that the individuals are super, but together they create something bordering on the transcendent, something indefineable. I have to say that, as daft as it may sound to people who haven't heard them or who don't like the music, I can't absolutely trust the musical opinions of anyone who's he

Hello, I saw this film the other night. It's no better than alright - a few effective scenes, a laugh or two but, as with most films featuring Jason Statham, not one for the intellectuals. What is of potential interest to us, however, is that, on imdb.com, Mick is listed as being part of the cast, as 'Bank Employee - Safe Deposit (uncredited)'. I haven't been able to find out anything else

Absolutely top band, brilliant. Ogden's Nut Gone Flake is an album to rate with Village Green by The Kinks and, as some of you have said above, Marriott had some voice - R'n'B influenced, but with a huge amount of soul in it's own right. Some of the live BBC sessions demonstrate his power and range and it leaves me, a singer myself, feeling entirely inadequate. They were a huge influence on P

Nanker, As has been said above, definitely visit the Stax studios, and Satellite record shop beside it. They're a little way out of Memphis city centre, but well worth it if you're into your old soul. (There might still be a shuttle bus service linking Sun, Stax and the Smithsonian, which is another must see and is right in the centre, just off Beale Street.) I've been to Memphis twice in the

Wolf Marshall gives his thoughts on this, and explains it to some degree, in his book "The Rolling Stones' Guitar Signature Licks: A Step-by-Step Breakdown of the Guitar Styles of Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Mick Taylor and Ron Wood". Recommended (but only for guitar players - I don't think non-musicians would get much out of it). Declan

Absolutely beautiful part of France. I've travelled along the Riviera 4 or 5 times and I always stop off to look at the house. I know a lot of you live far away, in different parts of the world, and won't have had the chance to visit; Villefranche is a beautiful little town, and a munch and a glass at one of the cafes overlooking the harbour, across to where Nellcote is situated, is a real pl

Elvis, not sure exactly when (Vegas, early 70s probably), not sure of exact wording, but something like: "BJ Thomas has a song out at the moment and...ah don't really like it..but ah'll sing it anyway". Did this a few times did Elv, I think. If he didn't like a song, he'd tell the crowd before he performed it. Not a great means by which to excite the audience, I wouldn't have thou

That 2010 interview in French is very enjoyable (and not too difficult to understand with a moderate knowledge of French; great thing about listening to an Englishman speak it!). I'd never heard Criss-Cross Mind before. It's fairly generic and could do with a few more ideas (as you say, it's unfinished), but here and there it features those unmistakeable early 70s Stones elements (momentum, sw
