Quotewinter And when was the last time that an audible crowd roar swept thru the arena because of the musical high from a guitar solo at a Stones' show (vs the 'performance' of, as noted by 24fps) like that version of CYHMK? You nailed it. The crowd response took it to whole other level.

QuoteThrylan Everyone raves about the solo, but to me, CYHMK is all about that wicked Keith riff, that he is a bit suspect on at times. I pretty much agree. I love the solo, but my favorite parts are the opening riff and the second chorus, with its call-and-response (Jagger's not singing it, he's shouting it). I know that the second chorus will never sound right on stage because the vocalist ca

QuoteFuman2 Taylor needed another minute and a half to get the Sway going. It was nice but he surely would have brought more golden notes in a three minute solo. I even thought CYHMK needed another minute, but that was mainly because it took Taylor so long to get into the good part of the groove. That will surely improve over time.

QuoteCousinC Quotekleermaker QuoteErik_Snow Quote24FPS Being overlooked, unless I'm wrong, is that we NEVER got Sway and Can't You Hear Me Knocking live in the Taylor era. Due to paper reports, describing CYHMK even before Sticky Fingers even was released, we know for sure that it was performed at the first Newcastle show of 1971. I started a thread about it, 2 years ago. Still I have my doub

Quote71Tele They should have put all the extra tracks from the deluxe edition of Ya Yas on the same disc as the original ones and resequenced them. Having Satisfaction on Under My Thumb/I'm Free on there really gives a wider picture of how phenomenal the band sounded in 1969, particularly the Richards/Taylor guitar combination. I've done this very thing with my copy of Ya Yas. It's easy with

QuoteGravityBoy I don't know why they needed overdubs because the vocals in the film are fine. (Tell me they didn't overdub the vocals in the film). Anyway, it's a great album AND a great cover, back and front. The vocal overdubs would likely be because of Keith. He rarely stepped up to the second mike and sang his backups. Which is no crime when he is concentrating on his playing as mu

Quoteozziestone Even so GYYO version of Little Queenie is easily the best live 12 bar rock n roll I have come across I think the same thing. I play Little Queenie for people when I want to show them the best example of rock and roll ever recorded.

Quoteroby Yes, I know and Stu is purely perfect here. Stu is amazing on it. During Little Queenie, I can't help but thing how much his playing is like Johnnie Johnson's. It's so good, I wish it was a little higher in the mix.

Quotesonomastone Really interesting to hear how many people love JJF from the 69 tour. The first time I played YaYa's, and saw GimmeShelter, back in the early 80s, was truly a revelation for me. I understood for the first time what it meant to be a great live band, and I realized that the Stones' recorded music was just the tip of the iceberg. YaYa's and GimmeShelter turned me from a Stones f

Quotecustom55 I L O V E the ending Street Fighting Man from the movie... with Mick and the rose petals ( at 2:40 ) Me too. Too bad we aren't given the whole song. But that syncopated ending is something else... Maybe someday we'll have access to the original recordings from the three NYC shows and the Baltimore show...

Quotexke38 The outro sounds similar to the part setting in at 2:08 that 71Tele refers to above. Definitely adds something to the song. Oh, it's similar. A little Taylor noodling in both cases. They're both cool. -R

Yeah, the Gimme Shelter version of JJF (Nov 28th, 1969 1st show) is a great one. But I happen to think that the Baltimore JJF (Nov 26th) has something even cooler during the guitar outro. This is my choice for "should have been on Ya-Yas" - although they are both great.

Just finished watching all of the youtube videos (I can't believe how good most of this video looks and sounds), and I am impressed. The band did what I thought couldn't be done - they pulled off an amazing show. My thoughts: 1) Keith and Ronnie are playing like it's 1982. I haven't seen them concentrate this much on their guitar playing since then. I respect hard work, and there was much

QuoteMathijs About the guitar overdubs: indeed there is only one confirmed guitar overdub, and one suspected (Carol). There could be more, but we don't have all the original tracks without the overdubs. The overdub in LQ is not hard to identify: it is just a complete different guitar track. Taylor's track has been erased, and replaced by Richards who keeps it a lot more simpler and straight-ahead

QuoteMathijs Btw, I just checked the audience version of JJF, 11/27: I do not hear any difference in the guitar part. For whatever reason, Taylor indeed not take a solo on the 27th, like he did on many other nights. Mathijs I've noticed that he had a habit of not playing at random times. For a few seconds here and there he would just drop out. Maybe he was messing with his guitar or somethi

Quote71Tele In '69 it was usually Keith who was out of tune, especially when he played that Dan Armstrong, which seemed impossible to tune. But yeah, sometimes Taylor was out of tune. So what. Quick question: What songs was the Dan Armstrong only used for on the 69 tour? Satisfaction I know. Any others? -R

Regarding MT and JJF, He seems to have played the solo runs differently (and at different spots) on every bootleg of the 1969 tour that I've ever heard. Maybe his guitar part was turned down on Ya Ya's during the outro, or maybe he just didn't play it that show. I've said it before, the Baltimore version of JJF has some sweet guitar work at the end. He never played the outro that way again.
