I happen to like the slow, bluesy version from Light The Fuse. It has its merits.

Quo - Pictures of Matchstick Man wasn't too bad, but 99.5% of the music is disposable. There's always something of interest on even the worst Stones album, but Quo are awful. The Latin term "status quo" is a lot more interesting with reference to politics.

Quoteelunsi Quotetomcasagranda Here's what I said on CIF Guardian blog re: Mick. I quite like Mick, but he does have alarming Vicar of Bray tendencies, i.e. going with whosoever is in favour: "There's a fascinating book, based on Lytton Strachey, entitled Eminent Elizabethans, by Piers Brendon. Brendon effectively interlinks Prince Charles, Rupert Murdoch, Lady Thatcher, and Mick Jagger.

PS, it's a pity that Keith, or Jane Rose, doesn't sanction a 2cd deluxe of Talk Is Cheap. There must be some outtakes kicking around.

It isn't just Bootsy Collins, or Mick Taylor: Maceo Parker, Willie Mitchell, Michael Doucet, Patti Scialfa, and the Memphis Horns all appear on the album. Keith was also listening to current music, i.e. Graceland by Paul Simon, and using it for Locked Away.

Also Aretha Franklin did a great version for Atlantic: it also crops up on the Girl Interrupted soundtrack. Fogerty's version is with Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Quotestonesrule Do keep in mind that in those years The Beatles and the Stones were far more famous than any American band. America had become anglopiles because of their songs. The Doors and Jefferson Airplane were on their way but they were not in the same league. The Beach Boys escalated due to a masterful publicity campaign when they first went to England. And not too long after Creedence

Why Dad's Army was so wonderful was that the sum was greater than the parts; a bit like the Stones really. There were so many wonderful performances in that comedy, ranging from the pompous Manwaring, the subversive Wilson, the miserly undertaker Fraser, and the effeminate vicar. It lost it's initial edge after the death of James Beck, the chap that played Walker, the spiv, but it was still great

There could be some more Stones recordings: we shouldn't get our hopes up, but here goes: "(Was, who produced two new songs on the GRRR! Rolling Stones hits package released last year, says the band is playing "the best I've ever heard them. They're more present, more focused." He hasn't recorded any more new songs with the band "though I know they've got more."
