I think those five shows were some kind of test whether there still is a market for the Stones and whether the market will accept their price calculation. Thus: first of all they needed a good reviews in the press to be able to launch some kind bigger tour (as well as to justify the tickets prices). It never made sense for me to go to a Jagger solo show to see him perform a setlist that features about 2/3 Stones material! And – besides financial reasons – he himself found out that this didn't make sense. Finally - selling out shows in Japan (especially in the late 80s) has never been a real test. I guess I know why Jagger avoided the important places/markets, i.e. Europe and the US.

What's so new about the fact that Dylan is miles ahead of the Stones? It used to be that way in the sixties and it's the same way since the late 80s. (if you don't believe it - just compare Dylans "Live 1966" to the Stones' "Got Live if you want it" – 1st is rock music for grown-ups while the latter is rather children's music)

although it is/was for free - the album is still worthwhile buying (forget all your computers, ipods etc - put the CD in your player and listen to the music through real speakers that are capable of the music's dynamics etc. Otherwise you will miss so much.
