A good band, but DC seems to have been greedy and controlling in the extreme - despite co-writing many of their hits, Mike Smith ended up dying a poor man, through no fault of his own.

In an interview in the Guardian, Ginger states: "If truth be known," he continues, "I was the Stones' first drummer. We used to do the interval for Alexis Korner with Mick Jagger, who was like Korner's protege, and Brian Jones. I got on very well with Brian, so we formed a band. Then Charlie left Alexis Korner so I could join, and I got Charlie into the Stones. But it was Brian

I was at this gig - Joe Jackson was one of the support acts (along with George Thorogood), and I remember he went to the front of the stage a took a photo of the crowd, saying 'this is the biggest audience I will ever play for'! A memorable afternoon.

Ringo, no contest. When NME readers voted him the best drummer in the world, Lennon commented that he wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles. Jon Hiseman (noted jazz / rock drummer) remarked that Ringo must have bought a 'Teach Yourself to Play the Drums' book, mastered page 1, and left it that!

Yes, it is good. It's basically a film of his radio show, with Ronnie and a guest in a studio which is decked out with guitars and amps (which seem to be purely decorative), and it is edited down so that we get about 30 secs of each song that is broadcast, and then it's back to the chat, which is mostly reminiscing. The songs include one or two by Ronnie / Faces / Stones etc., one or two by the g

It's surprising to me that when I talk to young guys about bands I saw back in the day, they are generally far more impressed that I saw the Doors once, than the fact I 've seen the Stones several times.....

Quotewith sssoul the Rolling Stones are so educational! the lights of Marfa: but what town was he lost in? it's not "I was lost in the real" I'm pretty sure it's Del Rio, which according to Google maps, is east of Marfa on Route 90. I don't think Vista is right either, it sounds to me like Vinson, which is further east again in Oklahoma, but doesn't really fit into a logical jou

QuoteRockman ....... come on geoff please tell us all ya remember.... Oh and yeah geoff can you remember if the girls masturbating when The Stones were on??? What I mainly remember is the girls screaming so loud I could hardly hear the band - I don't know what else the girls were up to, perhaps that was the cause of the screaming! However, I'm not sure that kind of thing was popular in Hull in

While we're on the subject, they also stole Bert Jansch's version of the folk standard Black Waterside and called it Black Mountain Side, credited (of course) to Jimmy Page Sadly, Bert Jansch died this week.

Never meet your heroes I don’t read many celebrity autobiographies, but as a fan since the early days, I had to finally read Keith’s. I had always bought into the ‘loveable rogue’ image, but I have now downgraded that to just ‘rogue’. I found the book disappointing on two levels – as a book, there were factual errors, contradictions, repetitions and typos, and given that the s

I went to one of the Manchester shows in March 71, and I'm pretty certain CYHMK and Wild Horses weren't played - Brown Sugar and Bitch were introduced as new songs from Sticky Fingers, but the rest of the set were familiar songs. The other thing I remember was Keith picking up his acoustic for Love In Vain, and finding it was so far out of tune that they abandoned it.

The first pop show I ever saw - good, but full of screaming girls. Am I correct in thinking that they were the first band of any note to have the singer / lead / rhythm / bass / drums lineup?

A small observation - most of Ry Cooder's work on his superb early records was interpretative. He took a wide variety of songs from different sources, and arranged them in new and interesting ways (eg. his best known track 'Little Sister', which is very different from the Elvis Presley original). It's not hard to imagine hime hearing Country Honk, and playing around with it a bit, and saying 'Why

Nashville, The main thing I recall was the noise - those small Vox amps were no match for several hundred screaming girls - and the general excitement. I had been to a few concerts before this one, but nothing on this level. Happy days!
