Quote If you want to be really happy, you need to take it a giant step further - somehow manage to see the beauty and value in the RS's performance that they hadn't yet achieved when they were younger. Surely half a century of growing, living, suffering and loss, even for these jaded multi-millionaires, has added some new richness and depth and patina to their music. If you could somehow let go o

Quotemgshorr My diagnosis: The whiners caught a buzz a long time ago and are still chasing the same dragon. They can't achieve the same high the Stones gave them years ago for 2 reasons. 1. The whiners are past their glory days 2. The Stones are past their glory days. Obviously, the Stones are past their prime, but we still love them and should be realistic with expectations. Anyone o

"Dan have you listened to the lyrics to it's only rock and roll? In one sense the singer is talking about having an audience of fans who demand more and more and are never satisfied. If I poured my heart out on the page would it satisfy you? If I killed myself on stage would it satisfy you? Etc It's a time honored tradition for stones fans to want more and better. Oh yeah, well acquai

Quoteflacnvinyl Dan, I am 29. I do not long for a previous band. I am only complaining about two things.. OFFENSIVE ticket pricing and stale setlists. There is zero adventure with these shows. My favorite band has chosen to take almost no chances with song selection. Apparently it is easier to add celebrity guests than to lower prices and play a varied setlist. I certainly understand where y

QuoteMunichhilton Thank you for your input Dan. I think I can deconstruct your claim with this... The Stones were a recipe for a dish you absolutely loved. Mick has switched out the salt and sugar. You are proposing we continue to eat what used to be our favorite dish with a smile...even though it tastes like crap... Bring back the original recipe Dan, bring it back!! When you taste

I just watched the video of KP on BOB and I don't get why so many people are bitching. Maybe she's not in the same league as the Stones, but she is very popular and she's got a good voice. I thought she did a good job even though I'd prefer to see a Stones concert with just the Stones. Besides that...she's hot!!!

OK - I suggest all the lengthy threads about complaints, bitchin' and moanin' be deleted as I can sum it up right here. Why the complainers bitch: They are in love with The Rolling Stones of, say- 1969 - 1982 in terms of live performances. They are enamored with how cool the Stones looked and sounded in their 20's and 30's and cannot accept the following facts which the happy fans are realistic e

"I am, as the title of my thread says, truly bored by the amount of embittered criticism, that is generated whenever the Stones bring out a guest, that the "older boys" on this board do not approve of, or think appropriate." Ditto. While I personally would prefer a full concert of pure undiluted Stones, come one folks and stop bitching about every little thing that doesn't

I read a fairly recent interview with MT where he said he left the Stones because he was scared that the addiction to heroin and cocaine he acquired while in the band's employment was out of control and he didn't want to end up dead. Jagger asked him to get clean, take about 6 months off and come back. Taylor didn't want to come because he was afraid he couldn't handle the temptation of the drugs

Surprised nobody mentioned Let it Bleed on 1981 tour opener in Philly, PA with everybody starting in a different key. What a cacophony of clashing sounds. They had to stop, Mick corrected Ronnie as to what key it was in and they started over. But they were cool about it. Everybody had a good laugh and they proceeded to do a pretty decent version of the song.

QuoteSWAYZ Worst train wreck? Easy. The Bigger Bang tour. Pick any show. All I know is the two shows I saw on that tour were AWESOME. Two of the best shows I've seen from the Stones. And I managed to find pretty decent quality bootlegs of both shows which prove I wasn't just overexcited at the gigs. Guess you didn't happen to see every show on the whole tour?

Quote24FPS Was it the Some Girls tour where the distance started? You think Mick was fed up with Keith's junkiedom and how Keith's bust endangered the band? Mick seemed to have lost a lot of the feeling that he and Keith were in this together. I really don't think their relationship survived the 70s. As far as I recall, when I saw them in 1978 they were still singing into the same mic - at leas

Quotedesertblues68 A mate of mine who was lucky to see them in concert during their peak years mid 60s to 76 has told me that the Stones were either riveting or awful, no middle ground with them. Is that true? Yes - Even in their so-called prime their concerts could either be transcendentally brilliant or horribly sloppy. Maybe if someone caught a bad show they might have said the Stones wer

Somebody woke up and realized he really wasn't needed. Lisa and Bernard are more than enough for backing vocals, although I'd rather they revert to having Keith and Ronnie barking and growling their ragged but right backups ala 1978 - 1981. And maybe somebody deliberately decided that Blondie had to go so that Keith would realize he's got to focus and play the way we want him to...without a net

Maybe I should have called this thread You Can't Always Get What You Want- but you get what you need. Be grateful The Stones are still rolling at an age many people never expected some of them to live to! God bless The Rolling Stones. It's only rock and roll - but I LOVE it! Yes I do! Thank you Stones!

So much grousing here about the Stones playing their songs at studio tempo, which is slower than what they used to do live. So what already? These guys are pushing 70. Charlie's older, Ronnie's a bit younger. Who ever thought a few decades past that the greatest rock and roll band in the world would still be touring in 2013?? Taking their age into consideration, they're in amazing shape and pla

Quotemuenke QuoteVT22 QuoteDoxa Re that "Brown Sugar" clip... It is really a treasure to listen and watch Keith Richards there. He is really getting better and better gig by gig since he started to play the guitar again. I can't recall when that simple riffage has sounded so cool and groovie. Keeping the rhythm down-down-down with that idiosyncratic timing, and those little tasty run

Still bummed. I had a ticket for Madison Square Garden (very close to my home) in 1981 and gave it away when I came down with the flu. Wish I'd gone anyway. It was reported to be a really great show, especially compared to the Philadelphia opening train wreck that I did attend, lol.

Actually, Bob's '81 Shot of Love Tour was my 1st Dylan concert and I really liked it. I had gotten into him around Blood On The Tracks at the tender age of 15. I also really like Slow Train and the other "Christian" albums. Even if you didn't share his beliefs, I liked that he was being true to himself as an artist, writing about what mattered to him at the time, knowing he would be w

Well,we all know there are 4 official Stones. Hell, unbeknownst to many was the fact that even Ronnie was not made an official Stone until the early nineties. The debate could go on and on, but does playing backup behind a legendary band who's members are what the crowd came to see, entitle one to say they are a Rolling Stone? Bobby Keys knows his place and to my knowledge never claimed to be a S
