If I am not mistaken- that is Sgt Norman Pilcher leading Stash to the car. The only film I have seen of him. Thanks for sharing. Simon

It was either June 26 or 27 1967 - depending on whether the Evening News was referring to something that had happened on the day of publication - a Wednesday. If it was the 27th it was the day that Mick and Robert Fraser were taken to Lewes prison to await sentencing for the Redlands bust. Methinks it was a dose of paranoia for Brian that prompted the display.

It was a desperate attempt to stop Norman Pilcher's mob from harassing him - which was occurring all the time. The guy was on the edge - and from these photographs - he clearly was!

The Beatles never manufactured LSD and the place where they sent a film crew was Monteray in June 1967 - the story goes that the camera's lens were filled with liquid Owsley's LSD - popular at the time. I have it on very good authority that Redlands was the first time that both Mick and Marianne took LSD, I was surprised - seeing it was February '67 - but it was the case. Simon

I don't recall Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Howlin Wolf being asked the same question - Stones just following the Blues line - rock till you drop !

I believe this is the only known picture of Redlands' bust attendee Nicky Kramer. Thought I'd share, but equally, I'd be grateful if anyone would care to confirm [2.bp.blogspot.com] Regards Simon Wells

Just exactly where is it - and who benefits from it? I'm curious- the royalties over the years must be quite considerable?

There's a fab book out that totally contextualises David Jove's wider reputation. I do recommend it to everyone - and especially Philip Norman!

Hi there, I'll answer your questions as best I can, Yes, the book's only been out less than a year. So yes, and in Kindleized format too! I could go on for hours about the approach to researching. Rather than bore everyone here with the detail - I did an interview that explains my research and what I uncovered NO photos were taken of the raid by police or anyone else (a number of

Strange that the Daily Mail/Norma Phillips, didn't mention the News Of The World once. He's pinched a few details that could only have come from my book as well. I wonder if I am in the bibliography.

Many thanks! That's nice of you to comment, and I'm happy that the hard work has paid off - I consider it a major complement. Seeing as you're all so nice on here - here's some of Schneiderman's searching officer - Tom Davies - police notes from the night. I sort of doubt Phillip Norman didn't bother looking for them! Suffice to say, this is the first time they've ever been published [1.bp

QuoteHis Majesty Quotesizey it reeks of revived sensationalism to sell a new book. Yah resorted to that yourself a little bit. I really hope I didn't HM - (and I feel bad if it came across as such ) I could have easily followed the party line - sensationalised it as much as Norman has done. But no, I did my research and presented it as factually as such. I dare say I could have made far mor

Couldn't agree more. The items leap off the page of the Mail/Norman feature. 1/ "At around 5pm on the same Sunday afternoon which had found them all on West Wittering beach, a Detective Constable John Challen answered the telephone at West Sussex Police Headquarters in nearby Chichester. "The search warrant was signed off at 3pm that afternoon" 2/ "This was West Sussex’s

Brian's sloppy behaviour was easy meat for the likes of Norman Pilcher to exploit. It's important to stress that the public embarrassment of the News of the World over Redlands led them to tip off police at every opportunity. Even in the the 1960s the paper was up to its dirty tricks - it's amazing it has taken so long to bring them to book. Simon

On the Pepper sleeve inner sleeve Paul Mac is wearing a badge that says OPD. While it might be because he was given a badge given by the Oregon Police Department (palpable nonsense) in reality it actually means "Officially Pronounced Dead". It's true that Paul did compose better music after his death.
