There was a second Mick and Keith moment at Anaheim, after Mick motioned Keith to follow him onto the ramp for Inky Tonk Women. They went in opposite directions as Keith went to solo on Sympathy. When they met up, with Mick singing "pleased to meet you", Keith mouthed the words and pointed at Mick, who clearly enjoyed it.

MT was having sound issues during Satisfaction. He went over to his foot pedals and was fiddling with them. It was amusing when he sidled up later to Keith and was playing the riff along with him like a Motown guitar section. Keith did the soloing as it was clear MT was having problems. Ironically, or perhaps owing to some connected issue, Keith's intro riff was cutting in and out. It would see

Occurred to me for the first time that a major difference between Bill and Darryl is that Bill played with a pick, which is unusual for a big-time bassist though punk bands have tended to do it since Dee Dee and Sid used one by necessity. Most of the warhorses are played as living breathing vehicles. Even Brown Sugar revealed Keith playing a particularly vicious Chuck Berry rhythm counter-riff

Great show tonight. Jagger was really into it a lot of the time, not just workmanlike, and he sang well. Lots of energy. The warhorses were all pretty special, with the players exchanging musical language and not just running through them. MT was very effective on Midnight Rambler, adding the right shade of darkness, and paying overt attention to the arrangement. On both songs he and Keith di

Sort of unexciting energy wise but a "slowly rocking" slightly malevolent vibe they never had again live. A summer's afternoon with the Rolling Stones. To watch or listen to, a very cool moment in time musically.

Quote71Tele QuoteTeddyB1018 Elvis Costello made the same complaint after seeing the 2012 NYC area shows, that it was too much like Mick Jagger and band. I tried to counter that Keith was choosing to hang back and hold it together but I now think he was right. Going to see Elvis in London in a few weeks, Teddy. Cool. He always gives it his all.

For some time after Brian died there were an awful lot of hipsters who insisted the Stones were done afterwards. MT meant nothing to them except a sign that the Stones were not cool anymore with their hot hired guitarist. Things are never as good as they used to be...

Don't think Sway will make for a great live song in an arena. It's a wonderful record though. Jagger singing Time Waits For No One live has the potential to be insufferable. Heartbreaker would be cool. I remember well when I told this board that Mick Taylor was in the studio with Matt Clifford working on the Exile project. Who'd have thought that you'd all be so quickly complacent that he's a

They're like Gilbert and Sullivan. A great team who grew apart from Sullivan's pretenses that his art was being held back by Gilbert's musical populism, which Gilbert resented, while the fans only wanted to hear their work together.

Quoteproudmary Quotetatters QuoteGreen Lady Yes, there's a good crowd - certainly not half empty in terms of "bums on seats". But it might be half empty in financial terms - it's obvious from the news and the reports here that a lot of the people there didn't pay the full price as originally advertised, and probably the $85 tickets saved the Stones' blushes. Right. Being able to &quo

Keith posited in Crossfire Hurricane that Midnight Rambler was the one song he and Mick wrote that no one else could have. So at least MT is being used for a cause Keith deems very important. I have no idea what the thinking behind restricting MT to just one song is. It could be any or all of the things people have guessed at, but in any occasion, it seems that he is going to be limited.

It didn't help Ronnie's bank account then but I like I Can Feel the Fire more than It's Only Rock and Roll. If Ronnie had released It's Only Rock and Roll with his lead vocal it wouldn't have sold either. With Jagger it was meta and an anthem. And Ronnie got to join the band. So I think he made the right deal.

Mick Taylor replaced Peter Green in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers after Greeny replaced Clapton. That's huge. The Stones knew what the hell they were doing when they picked Mick Taylor. They had collaborated with Ry Cooder and Dave Mason and and wanted someone who could play slide and jam a bit. Keith did an admirable job on BB in that area and made a fantastic record mostly on his own (guitar wis

There seems to be a significant percentage of the handful of people who post here who wish that to be true. There was a significant percentage of posters who said they would never play again after 2007. The Stones will play if they are having a better time than if they didn't play. If the tour is a drag, there is less incentive for them to do it again. But the idea that the tour will force the

The Stones have paid a pittance to the likes of Ian McLagan and Bobby Keyes. Keith paid Bobby Keyes out his his pocket. For all we know, MT would have agreed to play more for not very much money. My guess (and it's a guess) is that he isn't playing more because the band still sees itself as an ongoing proposition and he hasn't been invited to rejoin as a full member. I don't think he sells that

Jesus, I know you guys have heard the tapes of Hyde Park and even the '69 shows. The Stones played slow and sinewy. The fast tempos are what makes the shows "Vegas" like. That and the coke in '78 and '81. It's not about age.
