This song is amazing. I had heard the instrumental out take for years, but it reaches a whole new level on the Exile remaster. It sounds like an instrumental Paint It Black,if PIB was recorded in an Opium Den.Bobby Keys comes in later on and it just sounds even more dream like. almost hypnotic.

I'm gonna guess that Foo Fighters/Jagger perform Paint It Black. Seems like it could work.

The first Stones LP written completely by Jagger/Richards. The Uk version had Mothers Little Helper, and the US version had Paint it Black. But I think every song on this record is pretty good and has stood the test of time. It has some pure gems like Lady Jane and Under My Thumb, but it also has some excellent songs that aren't mentioned often, such as High and Dry, Stupid Girl, Think, and What

Quotemikeeder Taylor will do a fine book. I trust what he says far more then Jagger or Richards. I agree completely. Mick Taylor has never stooped to the tabloid bullshit route even though he easily could have published a trashy book about his time in the Stones during their most decadent era for cash. He never did that. He seems like a down to earth guy, and I look forward to his book.

Recently someone told me that Bill Wyman has film footage of Nellcote from 1971. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

QuoteSwayStones Was the guitar part written by Taylor ? I have no idea but the guitar intro sounds like a classic Keith riff to me.

Quoteguitarbastard fantastic opening riff (with a amazing guitarsound) and great chorus. the endless jamming is a bit annoying and gives the tune this "unfinished" character (just like soul survivor). I agree with you about the guitar sound. When I play this song loud it seems like Keith's amp is in my house! I listened to this song 5 times tonight, the album version and the one on

The song I'm referring to is "Im Going Down". The last song on Metamorphosis and found on various other unnofficial releases. I think it has a great opening Keith riff and if you listen close to the bass playing it's really good too (is that Taylor playing bass or Wyman). It also has a decent horn section in it. Jagger's vocals aren't anything special but when the chorus comes in, it s

QuoteMore Hot Rocks Did you notice also that the G (3rd) string becomes a round wound string at the bridge. Starts off as solid!!! You're right! Another strange thing about the photo.

If you have the vinyl version, look at it as that picture is much larger obviously. There are clearly only 5 saddles on the left and six strings on the right.

I was looking at the back cover of my Talk Is Cheep record and I noticed something strange. If you look at the right side of the photo you can see six strings on the guitar next to Keith's fingers. When you look to the left there are only 5 strings and 5 saddles(i think that's what they're called). [3.bp.blogspot.com] Take a look

I agree with you in the regard that Exile should be left "as is". I see no point in messing with it. But the fact that he is doing things with the outtakes in a studio could prove to be interesting.

According to Courtney Love (not the best source, but still). She was recently in the studio when Don was mixing Exile outtakes. Fast forward to around 1:55 Here is her twitter post about it .
