Fats Domino. He became ill during a European Tour in 1995, & vowed that he'd never tour again. He's stuck to his word, only doing a handful of appearances in his home town since then.

Quotetreaclefingers Can we clear up what mentholated sandwich actually is? I've always assumed it's a reference to metholated spirits, something alcoholic tramps (or "bums" in the USA) drink. Great song!

They'd probably copy the RS & revive a couple of Chuck Berry classics.

QuoteErik_Snow QuoteKirk From R'n'R cicus: Route 66, Confessin' the blues, Walkin' blues. Think I recall reading somewhere that those 3 songs weren't recorded. That puts an end to that hope. Exactly.

Quoteseitan QuoteSleepy City Sympathy For The Devil is probably one of their most dated. No-one would write lyrics like that anymore. . Tom Waits would, I dream of Tom doing a cover of that..hahah. Tom Waits is also dated!

Sympathy For The Devil is probably one of their most dated. No-one would write lyrics like that anymore. I don't care if music sounds dated though as I hate modern music.

I still say we're very lucky. Dave Bartram of Showaddywaddy (a few years younger than Jagger) is retiring from the band next month after 38 years as lead singer; he's still in great physical shape (like Jagger he's always been a fitness fanatic into jogging etc), but check out what's left of his voice... ...and here's how he once sounded:

Quoteotonneau Eric Burdon, 2006: Burdon 2008, no problems with the high notes that I can hear! Not saying the arrangement is top - intro far too long, the whole thing a bit corny - but the pipes are still working fine IMO. OK, you win! He sounds great.

QuoteDragonSky Dirty Work is easily Mick's worst vocal performance for an album. I think it's one of his best personally. Seriously. Mick's voice is the best thing about the album.

QuoteGazza 40% of their released songs have never been performed in concert. A quite staggering statistic for a band who have played over 2,000 shows and released over 350 different songs. I very much doubt if Paul McCartney has performed even 10% of his studio recordings on stage. So it's not too bad really.

His voice has held up better than pretty much all of his contemporaries with the possible exception of Cliff Richard (who was no Mick Jagger in the first place). If Mick's voice had deteriorated like Keith's then the band would've been finished by the late 70s.

QuoteGazza 'Stoned' was a song they just threw together to fill a b-side. They werent playing it around the time it was recorded (it was cut one week into their first UK tour) and they havent since. I'd be pretty certain of that. Actually I was thinking more of 'You Can't Catch Me'. Although not recorded at the time, it's (of course) an old Chuck Berry song from 1956, so I don't think it's
