I started a new thread with the title "I Obviously Don't Know What I'm Talking About" but then realized that it will only be a matter of time before someone else who is equally clueless makes a similar post, so why crowd the board with another new post. And as someone else has already said in another thread (and with tongue in cheek): "The important thing is to make definitive

QuoteHis Majesty Brian with a Vox Teardrop and Keith with a Gibson Firebird tells me the photos must be from a later gig. They are probably from 1965. Yep, the Firebird makes me think it's '65. And in the Byrds photo, McGuinn is shown already with a 12-string Rick. According to the legend, he didnt' the get the jones for a Rick until he heard it and *saw* it in the film A Hard Day's Night, wh

QuoteAllAboutYours all following from The Last Tour book by Philip Kamin & James Karnbach Great photos! But your version of The Last Tour by Kamin is different than my version, which focuses only on the US '81 tour, and is also a very nice book. I'll have to look for this edition that features '82, especially now that I'm digging the new Leeds '82 rel

Selling at a "lackluster pace" according to the ever-reliable (cough) NY Post in this "article." Actually, it's more of a headline without any details. But, a ticket can be had easily if you pony up the $$$... Tickets for the band’s Dec. 8 Barclays Center show were selling at a lackluster pace.

Who built the Super Bowl stage? Did the NFL pick up the tab on that? I can't imagine, given Mick's ambivalent attitude towards the Super Bowl performance ("it only worked cause we were already on tour", etc.) that they would've given much thought--and certainly not much $$$--towards the creation of a one-off.

"But some couples let the sun go to their heads--and made love in the open." Nice concert atmosphere, at least. And so the attendence was 80,000...plus I guess about 40,000 gatecrashers to get to the 120,000 figure that is often referenced today as the attendence. Or perhaps time has a way of inflating the numbers. (And on a related attendance note, this says that about 65K atte

Quoterooster QuoteWeLoveToPlayTheBlues Quoterocker1 That New Orleans show in '94 had pretty pathetic attendance, as I recall. 34,000 or so in the Superdome? (A far cry from the 87,000 they drew there in 1981...) I believe it was somewhere near 21,000. The Stones and U2 had horrible attendance for this tours there. I think the PopMart tour drew 19,000. I went to both shows and just laughed at

Have seen them both around for quite a long time. I think both are in the book by Massimo Bonanno (Rolling Stones Chronicle, from 1990).

QuoteDoomNGloom All the talk around here about them going out in a blaze of glory obviously had an impact on them. All the talk around here was more along the lines of a potential crash and burn, which I suppose could result in quite a blaze, at least.

Indeed. So there. You win! Now, my turn: 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 2 + 2 = 5 (If I just repeat this over and over it will become true!!!)

This release was by far the most pleasant surprise in the whole series for me. Not saying that it is necessarily my overall favorite, but I'm finding lots of little things to notice and enjoy in this performance. Would've never guessed I'd be saying that about a 1982 show.

This is an interesting show. Now that I've listened to it a couple of times, I think that Tumbling Dice, She's So Cold, and Hang Fire are the weakest tracks here. The whole show is just so...well, is it honestly, seriously, for real...cocaine fueled? Does that seriously account for the madness of the pacing and tempo? Do we know for sure they were hoovering the white powder that hard in '

Maybe it's because it's just new, but I'm actually liking this better than the Hampton show. (And the band is just out there without all the safety nets they utilized in every other live show after this one. That's nice to recall. And for as breakneck and fast-paced as this show is, they do a pretty good job of keeping it together.)

And if you want to meet the people behind this scam, er, movie, look no further: Put out by people who also believe that vaccines are harmful and that 9/11 was an inside job. But if you fly with that crowd, then no rational argument will convince you otherwise. Maybe try to view their site/views/movies/theories with the same amount of skepticism that you apply to everything else. Wha

Just curious: was the attendance at this show (I've heard it's ~120,000?) larger than the previous day's show at Slane Castle? And also, were both of these events ticketed shows where everyone there (theoretically) had to have a ticket? Or was the park open in the way, way back reaches for anyone who showed up, and they count those folks in the attendance estimates? (Would think this wou

QuoteJustin I hate how much that tiny little riff in the chorus is so much like AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long." It's very distracting. It sounds great and all..but it's practically lifted from AC/DC's song. I agree...but isn't it so nice to be able to compare a riff in a modern-day Stones song to one in an AC/DC song? (I mean...guitars have been AWOL for soooo long...

Listen Where?? This song isn't available now, apparently. New thread with permanent link? Update/Edit: just saw the MP3 link that gotdablouse so thoughtfully provided. Thanks! Initial thoughts: Intro guitar is a combo of Take it so Hard and some *older* intros of SFM, which is not a bad thing. It's not awful! And that's pretty high praise after SOL and some other later efforts. I l

Let's let this play out before slamming Pete or the band too hard. I will simply give him the benefit of the doubt until I'm convinced he doesn't deserve it. Nothing posted yet diminishes my respect for Pete, for the Who, or for their current tour. So...for now: Nothing to see here! Let's not be alarmist! This is actually typical Who mayhem/bizarreness. It'll work itself out...I
