Hello all,
I have recently taken up guitar. I am trying to learn No Expectations in standard tuning. I can figured out the E A E sequence but I can;t seem to figure out the part where Mick sings "have I felt like this before"

Can someone pleae help me with this? I get conflicting info saying it's FCG or GF#E.

Please help a frustrated KR wannabe.

One of the best Stones songs to get yer feet wet while learning to chord. Easy and beautiful! Have fun, Cafuro. Theres no joy like figuring out a Stones song or riff for the first time! Well,other than HEARING a Stones song for the first time.

It isn't E A E , it's E A minor E

Well its A in the sheet music included in David Dalton's Rolling Stones but what the hey.

There are no minor chords in No Expectations, just 3 major chords as mentioned above.

The studio version is in the key of E, the Rock and Roll Circus version is in A.

Thanks for that,Majesty! I always thought either I'm nuts or it WAS different on Circus. Wonder why they played it in A on that? It was obviously way too uncomfortable for Mick's singing (in my opinion)

I haven't listened to it for awhile, but I think they also played it in A at the 69 Hyde Park gig.

I reckon the change of key will have been due to some vocal thing, perhaps it just didn't work live in E at that time.

What kind of guitar are you playing - acoustic or electric? You'll find the slides and bends easier to do with an electric. You should be able to find tons of Stones guitar tabs on the Web. You'll find Stones tab written up in any number of keys and interpretations. I've found that trying out the various permutations put up by the tabsters will give you a feel for what sounds closest to the Stones. If you do torrent files and such, you can find various Stones songbooks and other bands available for DL. You Tube has numerous clips of players demonstrating their style and how to play it. Regarding songs and the chords listed for them: Keep in mind that you can sometimes substitute a simpler version of a chord for the one listed. That's why there's lots of what they call "fake" books out there. Let your ears be your guide. A tip: Check out your local library for fake books and such. I've copied many a song from the stuff I got from the local library.

Standard tuning:

Take your first finger on the 9th fret of the D string
strum the A and D string and hammer-on in rhythm between the 9th and the 11th fret

Then do the same with the E and A strings:

Take first finger on the 9th fret of the A string
strum the E and A string and hammer-on in rhythm between the 9th and the 11th fret

When the time comes, play a normal D A E then back to the riff...

This is what KR is doing.
