POST update#1: Radio documentaries (Stones related)

More Radio documentaries (Stones related)

Again, recorded as they played – hence the breaks where the tape was turned over…
…all in VG quality transferred via wav to 192 kbps (for reduced file size) but what that means, from a cassette original, I’m not really sure!!

This Week special ~ ”The Rolling Stones On The Road” (originally broadcast May 1976)
Slight confusion here as I taped this direct off the TV at the time but can’t remember exactly which show (similar to the second item in Nico’s listing but less song extracts) – however, either way, this is a great ‘on the road’ doc with countless classic sound-bites from The Stones, various roadies and Peter Rudge.
See 760515A and 760500C in [www.nzentgraf.de] for more details
Full Show ( 26:45, 36.7 MB )
[rapidshare.com]

The Chess Story ~ narrated by Marshall Chess (originally broadcast 2000)
“..tracing the story etc…” with contributions by Phil Chess, BW, KR, Eric Clapton, Sam Phillips, Zoot Horn Rollo, Van Morrison, John Mayall, Jeff Beck and Jack Bruce.
See 000722A in [www.nzentgraf.de] for more details
Part1a ( 30:49, 42.3 MB )

Part1b ( 28:11, 38.7 MB )

Part2a ( 30:42, 42.1 MB )

Part2b ( 27:44, 38.0 MB )

MJ interview with Annie Nightingale (originally broadcast 19th November 1978)
“…talking about the recent US tour, Some Girls album and the possibility (or not) of touring the UK and Europe…”
See 781119A in [www.nzentgraf.de] for more details
Full Show ( 14:13, 19.5 MB )

Cheers

Recorded as they played – hence the breaks where the tape was turned over…
…all in VG quality transferred at 320 kbps but what that means, from a cassette original, I’m not really sure!!
(sorry about the file sizes but had a couple of issues - will know better next time)

From Station To Stadium ~ presented by Paul Jones (originally broadcast 19990410)
“…the Rolling Stones look back over almost 40 years on the road…”
See 990410b in [www.nzentgraf.de] for more details

Part1 ( 30:26, 69.6 MB )
Part2 ( 29:59, 59.4 MB )

Alexis Korner Story ~ presented by Tom Robinson (originally broadcast 2000)
“..traces the career, etc…” but a slightly different perspective as it also takes a good looks at his solo work and broadcasting career – good stuff…
I remember listening to his show back then and you would get Snooks Eaglin, The Shadows of Knight, The Drummers of Burundi, Al Jarreau, The Temptations, Cannonball Adderley, JB Lenoir, etc – all in the same show – many unknown to me at that time – it was absolutely essential and influential listening

Part1 ( 31:02, 71.0 MB )

Part2 ( 24:26, 55.9 MB )

The Sidemen ~ Ian McLagan (originally broadcast 1991)
…looking at the lives of musicians who have made key contributions to the careers of others…”

Part1 ( 30:49, 70.5 MB )
Part2 ( 30:11, 69.1 MB )

Brian Jones: the Dream of Life ~ presented by Paul Jones (originally broadcast 19990703)
“…profile etc with contributions from MJ, KR, BW, Alexis Korner, Pat Andrews and BJ’s father…”

Part1 ( 44:55, 102.0 MB )
Part2 ( 12:02, 27.5 MB )

Hope I Die before I Get Old – the Cult of Death in Rock’n’Roll (originally broadcast 20000601)
“In this programme Mark Kermode and Charles Shaar Murray tussle over the Rolling Stones’s Brian Jones”
See review here [findarticles.com] - which sums up the programme (and series)

Full Show ( 26:05, 59.7 MB )

For those interested, I have posted other radio docs before - a "search" should find them ok.

Cheers.

Hi zagalo,
do you have the "In Sound" Radio Interviews? I've only two of them but are on vinyl and I'm not equipped to convert them in mp3.

Here is one: but I think they were 4 or 5 programs. I've two of them on vinyl. I think these programs were purposely done for the US Army in Vietnam (I could be wrong). I've plenty of stuff on vinyl but don't know how to transfer on my PC. I just acknowledged that there's a new equipment that can be connected to the turntable and allows to convert the vinyls in mp3; when I'll find it I will be able to share these documents with you.

660801A 1st August: US radio (WABC) 'The In Sound', New York. Host: Harry Harrison.
- interview with MJ & KR by phone call (transmitted on the same day)
- interview with KR by phone call
Note: The interview with KR was broadcast on the 15th August.

Thanks

Sorry, don't have those...

In terms of recording, this site is useful... [audacityteam.org]

I record direct from the "line out" on the amplifier into the computer, using audacity to record; a bit of practice on the volume and it works really well - on either tapes or records

I prefer to save to wav immediately and then edit - but that's just what I am used to

...yep,one or two more 'archive' tapes and LPs to come - mainly live stuff going forwards

Cheers.

Alexis Korner Story ~ presented by Tom Robinson (originally broadcast 2000)

Got,and enjoyed, Pt.1, but the link to Pt.2 seems to have a problem. Could you check the link, and if it's dead, I'd appreciate a re-up - it's not a huge file, and if I don't get it from here, I don't know where to look for it.

Cheers.

Thanks for re-upping Korner/Robinson Pt.2,Zagalo - it was annoying when Pt.1 finished and I couldn't get my hands on Pt.2.
Also thanks for Korner/Chris Jagger; I got Pts. 2 and 3 from iPlayer, but I was too late for Pt.1 - delighted to get it now.

Cheers.
