Live Licks Question
Posted by: wildcard ()
Date: July 18, 2007 02:35

Hi
Is there any way to get any source info as to what shows each song on Live Licks came from? Thanks for any help!!!

Re: Live Licks Question

Haven't done any real investigation on that subject, but to me every song on Live Licks sounds like they are taken from the shows that are on 4 Flicks, which are MSG Jan 18 2003, Paris Olympia 2003(don't remember the exact date) and Twickenham London Aug 24 2003 plus the bits and pieces on the documentary DVD

That being said I hardly ever listen to Live Licks, so I might be wrong

BTW saw that you are new here. So welcome

Ok I was just wondering cause I already have the dvd box and didn't want to get Live Licks if they were the same performances. Thanks for the info and the welcome!!!

I'd say if you have the 4 Flicks DVD there is absolutely no need to get Live Licks. Some of the songs are marred by some terrible editing. Especially Rocks Off.

The version of "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" that's on LIVE LICKS (w/Solomon Burke) is definitely *not* on FOUR FLICKS (except a brief snippet in one of the documentaries).

I skipped Rocks Off, but the rest of LL is on my Ipod.
I like it pretty much, way more than Flashpoint, but less than Stripped and YaYA's

No, there are 3 good reasons for buying fourty licks:
1. Can´t you hear me knocking
2. Street fighting man (new voice of mick?)
3. nearness of you (new mix)

Re: Live Licks Question

The Live Licks bonus track of " If You Can't Rock Me " is horrible. Verses are cut out while other verses are repeated. It's right on par with the " Rocks Off " butcher job.

I felt as though the Japanese Live Licks was a huge waste of money, especially considering that, when I made the purchase,I already owned the standard Live Licks double CD set. It was a huge disappointment after the great bonus track on the Japanese issue of No Security.

The live version of " If You Can't Rock Me " from the August of 2002 warm-up concert in Toronto is MUCH better ; as is the Halloween 2002 performance from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

There were a few of nice versions from 2003 as well.

Re: Live Licks Question
Date: February 20, 2014 18:46

" Can't You Hear Me Knocking " on Live Licks (as posted above) is a different rendition from the performance on "Four Flicks" . The Live Licks version is from the Wiltern in 2002 while the Four Flicks version is from New York City in January of 2003.

Also,Live Licks has a pretty decent sound mix ..... different from Four Flicks. The only problem with Live Licks is the horrible editing and poor song source selection ( Rocks Off from London etc. ) on roughly a solid third .... nearly half of the tracks.

Rogerriffin, thanks for sharing If You Can't Rock Me, would it be too much to ask for Black Limousine, Just Want to Make Love to You and Undercover of the Night?

I don't have much to offer back, if you missed the Beast of Burden iTunes download I could give you that?

FYI The 50th anniversary Crystal Head Vodka CD has the Butchered Rocks Off.

They also dubbed in some audience noise before and after a stripped track.
