Comments: These are the same old sources ("markers" abound), except for the first 7 songs of CD 3. Millard used a portable Nakamichi stereo cassette deck, AKG microphones, and a wheel chair as his recording mechanism. He was a notorious taper of L.A. Forum shows and unfortunately committed suicide in 1990. Missing of course from these sources is the voice of Ms. A.W. aka "Vicki Vinyl" which you hear on the old LP's. Issued on gold CD's.

I dont know this for gospel but I was told by someone "reliable" that the there was no Millard source for the 12th past Happy. Vinyl Gang is notorious for making up facts. Like calling "Hot August Night" all sb from Bill Graham thanking him for the tapes after his death!!

That's true, sound gets terrible after Happy. Still nice to have the full show.
The credits on Hot August Night....VGP don't say it's the full show....not directly anyway..
It must have been hotwacks who wrote it was all SBD... smiling smiley
I thought it was a nice credit to Graham...no matter if he any part of it or not.

I'm too dumb to post pictures(maybe someone else can) Erik but my VG edition of this was released in 1997. Bill G. died in 1991 I believe and the inside insert claims "recorded live'r than you'll ever be at Knebworth Fair,August 21,1976. Its an excellent stereo line recording...made by the Rolling Stones Mobile Unit. Many thanks to Bill Graham for lending us the original master tapes...!! Rockman, where are you??

Scottkeef....post heavily edited, I was wrong about Graham, he he, SORRY!, here's the cover [www.rs-covers.com]
I also have the original VGP...and I love it; I think it's transferred from some tapes; instead of being a 'noise-reduced vinyl rip'

erik-thanks for the post(now I know where to go for covers!). as you can see "readin' n ritin" wasnt where I spent the most attention in high school(HA HA). Well, except for senior yr when we got a new 22 yr old teacher but thats another story!!! Har-de-har

Oh don't worry Scottkeef, and I did think of Ahmet Ertegun when speaking of Graham, so...we're both guilty here, ha!
Anyway...I agree with you that VGP sometimes indirectly promised things they could not deliver. Still; they were on their peak in the late 90s (at the time of Hot August Night) and they released some nice upgrades of what was previously available.
But countless of other labels..."SODD" being the ultimate example....write total lies all accross their covers. They make VGP seem like an honest priest in comparision.

Are you saying that all tracks past "Happy" on the July 12th show and the entire July 13th show are not from Millard?

Not at all. The 13th is definitely his(and the best recording out of the three IMO) But as far as the 12th the tracks past Happy ARE from another source. I received cdrs indirectly(!!) ahead of the 75 box set originally put out from these tapes a few years back which I assume is VGs source and the original Millard tape of the 12th stopped here for whatever reason( equip malfunction or just destroyed I dont know)
By the way, I wonder who recorded the LA show 7-9-75 first released by TOTONKA? I always thought maybe it was Millard because its just as good as 7-11 quality wise.

Is the VGP-085 "LA Connection" from July 11th a different source than Millard's? I have not heard the show from July 9th or July 10th.

Was the July 13th show also released as @#$%& in LA?

I might be wrong but I thought the "LA Connection" put out by VGP in the 90s was sourced from the video sb which is 7-11.I remember getting it in a trade but with no artwork. My VGP 7-13 cd is from 1996 and called "LA FRIDAY 75". VG has put the same shows out under numerous titles over the years-sometimes upgraded, sometimes not! The silvers I have of the 9th is called "LA Opening Night 1975" CDPRO 17/18

Chris M's site 'Revelations on the Stones' has a quite a bit of info on the various boot releases of the '75 LA Forum shows.

According to his site it's both from an audience and sbd source. Don't have a copy of that disc, so I can't confirm that. However if the sbd source is indeed from the video, I'd say get a copy of the Millard source instead - it's way better imo, but still the July 11 show is not that good a performance.

Now that I think about it I beleive the sb copy of the 7-11-75 is the BIG MUSIC release(if I remember correctly from the trader) but it IS entirely sb sourced. Very easy to tell. I do have to agree that the Millard aud is more enjoyable. This is a video sb and you know how the mix can be a little odd and "bassy" sometimes. Neither the Millard tape of the 7-11 or the partial tape of 7-12 is of the quality of his 7-13 recording, though IMO. It has to be one of the best aud tapes ever right up there with "Stars In The Sky" 73 material. As I,ve said before I dont know how people matrix sb/aud recordings but the 7-11-75 show would sure be interesting to do!

Now if I can get my hands on the shows from the 9th and 10th that will complete the 5 night run. Did Millard tape these as well if anyone knows?
