Been giving these new tracks a good listen with headphones, really great stuff for fans of outtakes!

"Keep It Cool" is quite something, the beginning of the bridge/"Middle 8" sounded familiar and I think I've been able to place it as the chorus of..."Out of Control". Actually this is really a prototype of OOC and it's hard to believe Mick didn't have it mind/on hand when it got resurrected for B2B.

Charlie says something at the end of "High School Girl" that I can't quite make out, "that was nice" ? It does mean he's on it because when the drums first come in on that song it almost sounds like a drum machine, in keeping with the Mick demo feel, that has to be him on guitar, it's nice to hear some isolated playing.

I d/l this from dime and it's a very good listen apart from the awful Keef version of AIHTDID.
I do realise however, that many folk do like that kind of thing ;-)

Anyway,highly recommended.

Does anyone know who's the "N." who helped ID the tracks? An IORR regular maybe?

Can't say I'm a fan of Keith's "Toronto Sessions" (big disappointment when I parted with a lot cash back in 1990 to buy that CD) but I quite like this track, an acquired taste possibly ? ;-)

Agreed gotdablouse.

I have the TS vinyl boot on nice multicoloured vinyl, don't think I've ever played it more than once and then not all the way through ;-)

Thanks a lot gotdablouse - this set sounds great.
The dime torrent is unresponsive at the moment but managed to download from mega.co.nz using the megadownloader.

[megadownloader.appsformega.info]

Be wary when installing the program - it wants to install (IMO) unecessary browsers etc.

Here's an idiot's guide to using the megadownloader that worked for me anyway

copy selected link to clipboard
open Mega downloader.
right click on window and choose add-links
now paste link in the new window
type a file-name and select a destination
press add-links button
hopefully it will now start to download

Yeah! Let the bitch fight start!

This is a snippet of a bunch of tapes available to not too many...

Let's wait and see what's up next!

Yeah!

Mathijs

Bitch fight? Dude...what is wrong with you, don't you think your previous messages on the topic were embarassing enough? Just go away and enjoy your uncirculated tapes in your cellar or somewhere.

Not too good wording from my site. I meant that apperently there's a second (group of) person(s) with access to at least part of the dozen of tapes that are available with this material. Only Neighbor(s) is new to me. I hope this release will urge the other group to start releasing the stuff.

Yes that'd be the best-case scenario (for us worm-level fans).
"I'll sell my cdr's to a Japanese label before the other group torrents what they have".
A guerilla war of hoarders for the benefit of fans!

It's big time to sell some tapes while they are still worth something...

True that, I have hardly bought any bootlegs the last 3 years, and I actually listen more to classical music than bands "like Rolling Stones". Not to mention all the RS fans that have died this millenium.... it's a dying interest. But there's still a-little-bit left, so this is their last chance

Even some of us living hard core fans are beginning to lose interest. Better hurry up I would say. At the risk of starting a Stones Vs. Beatles argument I really don't think The Stones have as much shelf life in comparison. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my belief.

The more you listen to the Nighbours outtake its clear that they kept the drum part for the final take.

Towards the end the rolls and offbeats are identical to Tattoo You.

At least partially its the final drum take

Neighbor is a testament to how much difference mixing makes and how great an editor/engineer/producer Chris Kimsey is.

Love what the pedal steel adds to Tried To Talk Her Into It. Definitely one of the highlights of the Boot, along with Keep It Cool and Eliza Upchink. High School Girl kinda goes nowhere.

Keep it Cool is so.... cool. No, it would never be a single or a much talked about track, but it's a very nice, original idea, though I can imagine it looks like a lot of work trying to write proper lyrics for it.

I think the pedal steel was already there on previous releases.
But it is crazy how sound improvement gives a different light, I totally re-discovered tracks I though to know very well.

Will check but isn't it a different version than the one that first appeared on OBR's "Chainsaw" back in 96 or 97? It certainly sounded different in the snippet from last December.

"sounded" yes but based on the vocal it does appear to be the same version albeit in much better quality!

The more UC outtakes emerge the more I find these sessions fascinating.
What musical direction (or lack thereof?) the band was following at that time, and how the final product (the official UC album that we know) was shaped.

They had great demos/"version I" songs that could have been released almost "as is" but they decided to work very hard on songs that frankly didn't look very appealing in their demo/"version I" form.
Check "Pain Of Love I" and you'll see what I mean...

"Stop That" with more audible vocals must be something!

Agree about these late '82 Pathe Marconi sessions being very interesting. I still really like the official Undercover album, but the more I listen to the outtakes and early demos the more I wish they had skipped the slick production that ended up making the final cut. I actually kinda dig Mick's muffled vocals and the bare bones, guitar-heavy sound of the early recordings, although the Stones (and studio execs for that matter) would probably see them as "unfinished".

I'd never noticed before how close "Tried To Talk Her Into It" is from "Claudine".
