The Rolling Stones, Hyde Park, London
July 5, 1969

[cleanup, tune-up, merge and restoration by funkydrummer]

Sources: SODD 015, VGP 296, Living Legend Records [LLRCD 032], DVD Video

01. Intro/Adonais - Removed the Sam Cutler "they're incredible bit" because it is an edit from the end.
02. I'm Yours And I'm Hers
03. Jumping Jack Flash
04. Mercy Mercy
05. Stray Cat Blues [Merge]
06. No Expectations - after 1min, new dvd soundtrack used.
07. I'm Free - Stereo Merge
08. Down Home Girl - as usual, audience tape.
09. Love In Vain
10. Loving Cup
11. Honky Tonk Women
12. Midnight Rambler
13. Satisfaction [Merge Intro]
14. Street Fighting Man
15. Sympathy For The Devil
16. Bonus - No Expectations [w/ Intro merge]

While this is hardly the first time that the still unofficially released Hyde Park show has attempted to be reconstructed from TV, radio and audience tapes, I hope that my attempt provides a different perspective, and an upgraded listening experience.I have tried to give the impression of a complete SBD - and have attempted to provide a uniformity which meant a combination of editing, merging, speed correction, I can't quite remember all of the work I did...So this is a combination of cleanup, restoration, and "tune up" - that is to say, that I have attempted to use some pitch correction at times to a show that is more often than not annoyingly out of tune. A liberty on my part, but nothing major, there is no software that can truly save Keith's guitar.

Still, part of the attempt to restore the show in the best sound quality possible.
Tried to make it complete as possible too - but there may be the odd bit of stage dialogue missing.

As we will unfortunately never see this officially released, due in part to the looseness and tuning, I did my best for posterity. Although I am keen to hear if anything is missing, let me know. I may take another shot at the show at another stage.

16 - The "bonus" track, No Expectations [w/ Intro merge] was my original shot, but I thought that the merge sounded slightly out so I replaced the first verse with the SBD - the rest is DVD version.
Track 16 can be used interchangably with 06.

It just fits on a single CD too (choosing only one version No Expectations)

Now in the Stones Vault too

Have had a listen and very ethereal sounding - but if I am honest, I don't think it was quite as tight as the other ones you posted - Altamont and 100 Years Ago.
It is pretty painstaking to do the merges, as I only know too well.
In fact I was listening to Hyde Park in my car today - and I think I perhaps made a mistake with the hard pan L/R of Stray Cat Blues and I'm Free...I immediately wanted to do them again! But I'll leave them for now as I have a bit on my plate at the moment.
But yeah - it is practice makes perfect really - and in general they both have to be EXACT for it to give the full benefit...which is why I never used to merge at all before, for reasons other than precision - if the sources are rough - then unless one uses noise reduction judiciously, it is just noise on noise...and sometimes I think a single source is better than a merge...But over time I have gotten better, just by going through bit by bit matching the waveforms so they are as close to exact as possible...

Hey vancouver - I wouldn't say "not so good" - "a little tweaking, perhaps"...

I'm Free - I merged that because the best quality version I had was the SODD one, which is mono SBD, and so I mixed that with the DVD version to make a more stereo sounding version...but has switches back to mono for that bit...
Unfortunately there is some dropout on that one in the solo...
My knowledge of Stones boots still needs some work - in fact with all of the Hyde Park boots out there - it is hard to know which sources are used and which is best quality...perhaps I should have mapped that out better before I started - but it started on a whim anyway...

OK, I will have to reacquaint myself with that one...
I'd be happy to revisit and re-merge.

BTW - due to the fact that I previously used an edited version of I'm Yours She's Mine here is a "Complete Stereo Merge" - still think I can do better, but that will have to do for now...used sections of SBD with audience to make a fake stereo middle section...FYI...

I also have a couple of new uploads there (Stones Reference Library) of stuff I have been messing around with...more to come

Funkydrummer that merge you did of 'I'm Yours She's Mine' is excellent. It's a couple of years ago now. Have you included it into your mix of the show. The filefactory and Mega.co.nz links are dead.. any chance of a repost.
