Thanks for Saitama. Maybe you also remastered 6 songs from Tokyo rehearsals which are filler on some releases from Saitama? I'd like to have them, if you so kind.

Coming back to aniversary Ya-Ya's, do you think that the remaster of basic concert was "flattened" so there is no chance for any remastering which would bring it closer if not identical to the sound quality of 5 unrealised bonuses?
Of course I'm trying to talk you into such a chore :-)

Coming back to ideas, I have some:
1) 1999-6-6 - Sheffield, UK - Beyond The Valley - VGP-245
2) 1995-6-16 - Landgraaf, Holland - Dutch Voodoo - SBS Records
These were on TheYesterdaysPapers until they were devoured by Megaupload
3) 1998-6-20 & 21 - Werchter, Belgium - Beasts of Belgium
It was posted on iorr.
Why these? Apart from Stones performance, they are very atmospheric with exciting audience interactions. Will you PLEASE try your hand on them?
Best,
Greg

Greg, I never got your email.

I've been getting emails from IORR users lately and I appreciate everyone's help & feedback, but if it's related to stuff on this thread, why not just post it here?

On the other hand such incident only confirms my fears.
Sorry then.

Hey Joe,

I have excellent idea for your Master Hand.
You certainly know unusual mix of Arrowhead Pond of Aneheim, CA, February 11,1999 where particularly at the beginning (Jumping Jack Flash) bass sound is VERY brought out. However it sounds very clear, without any unpleasant effect which could have blurred the rest of the music.
So... could you please remaster a concert of your choice but aiming to bring out Daryl Jones above all (of course Jagger would be on the front).
On every remaster people are concentrating on Keith + Ron, so maybe you'll try to make it from different perspective - if technically it is possible for you.
And of course if it's fun for you.
Best,
Greg

Glad you like the Saitama mix. I went through some of the other Japan shows from that run. There's definitely room for improvement sound-wise, though some of the performances are a little off. I'm going to come back to them after a few other projects.

This is a unique idea. You can probably get the sound you're looking for by grabbing a Mickboy remaster of one of the Licks shows. See here IORR.ORG It's a useful suggestion though, because you're right a lot of times too much focus goes into producing mid-range detail -- to the detriment of the bottom of the mix -- during remastering. I'll keep this in mind for the next mix.

I'm glad Joe that you like the idea.
Though I'm not sure about Mickboy's remasters as a source (but I have no ANY idea about remastering) because his works are not comparable to yours in ANY aspect.
Anyway I'm anxcious to hear what you will make.

One more sugestion Joe:

Falo Mix of 1975-07-11 Los Angeles is perfect but it would be even more
than perfect if you brought Jagger's voice a little bit upfront.
I don't know what will be their official release of Los Angeles 1975
but it may turn out that this idea is worth your consideration.
Well... I hope that this idea will not cause an outburst of anger of
all Falo Mix fans, I also love it but... but... but...

I wouldn't worry. Falo's a legendary technician and a video expert to boot...I'm sure no one would seriously take issue if we messed with one of his mixes. I'm not a big fan of the July 11th show from LA though. I think it's obviously the weakest link of the LA run and possibly one of the worst performances of the tour, so I'll pass on remastering it.

I added the following show to the index though:

1995.03.12 Tokyo Dome [DSP remaster]
source: ''Voodoo Edo'' [Morph-17]

Only mp3 source on this one...and Sister Morphine source at that! I'm playing around with bass compression right now, trying to get Daryl Jones situated nicely in the mix per Greg's very useful request. This is like the beta mix for a new "Daryl-friendly" algorithm created with iZotope 5 advanced. I'm trying to create as broad (+20% on the bass envelope) or "big" a bottom as possible without distorting. I purposely picked a source that was lacking in bass. The mix is a tad too loud, but hell I share it anyway because this is a test run and I'm not trying to get it perfect.

I saved the settings here so if it sounds ok to all of your ears, then let me know and I'll get a lossless copy and remaster it proper.

I included a sample of track 08 from the source for comparison.

enjoy!

Of course it sounds better than Morphine (also just thanks to more distinguished bass tones) and is far better than my original released on Octopus. There is slight mistake at the very beginning of Not Fade Away (fraction of Jagger's voice over drumming)

And you know what, Joe...
Every minute you're occupied by something else than remastering is lost for the posterity. You should be kept in solitude, with a dog or cat for emotional balance, three walks a day (45 min each), no connection with the world outside apart from iorr.blog, and remaster... remaster... remaster...

However I would wait for something less obvious/less well known as I suggested on already few of my lists. I would add here Morphine's Women, Wine and Song 2nd Edition, 1997-11-22.

Keep on going
Best,
Greg

The following shows was added to the index of page 1 of this thread:

1976.05.22 Earl's Court, London [DSP Remaster ver. 2]
source: DAC-045

This is a new mix of the Earl's Court show I posted last year. Presonus Studio One and Izotope Ozone 5 advanced were used to render the final mix.

A room simulator reverb module was applied in Presonus, producing a "pre-mix". The Premix was then filtered through Ozone 5 advanced. I used upward compression (limiting ratio of less than 1:1) between 142Hz and 1.55kHz to fatten up the sound. I also used a true envelope level detection circuit to get even levels accross all the frequencies. A stereo image was rendered using 4 multi-bands. It's not true stereo, but it sounds much better than the source.

If I could do one thing over with this mix, I'd turn the room simulator down a bit but it's not such a big deal where I feel like remixing it. It actually adds something to the bone-dry sound on the source.

enjoy!

EDIT - Just realized that I never encoded these to FLAC. They're in Wave file format. Oh well, it's still lossless I guess.

I left them off. The sound was shite AUD recording! It sounded like it was recorded from the bathroom across the street from the venue.

I'm mixing 1976.06.04 Paris right now. I only had the Godfather Records "Tour Of Europe Revisited" because I foolishly deleted DAC after I was done mixing it last year.

The following show was added to the index on page 1:

1976.06.04 Paris [DSP Remaster ver. 2]
source: GR "Tour Of Europe Revisited"

This a new dsp mix of the June 4th Paris show. It replaces the one posted last year. The source had the levels a bit too high and sounded uneven. This mix is anchored better to the bottom. It's not as loud as the source, but it sounds a lot les shrill.

Presonus Studio One and iZotope Ozone 5 advanced were used to craft the new mix.

enjoy!

Hi Joe.....thanks a lot for your efforts..the only thing is, is that this show (Although it does say the 4.June.1976 on the cover) is in fact the 6th. (I only realised this myself last week) If you check the intros for instance you have Mick talking about Bill's cigarette (In French) which is the same as CaptainAcid's recent upload of the 6th. Falo and Erik Snow both say this is the SB recording [www.iorr.org] - and the only Paris SB was the 6th............thanks a lot anyway..thumbs up.pity about the one you deleted ....sad smiley

I thought this one sounded like the 6th but it had been awhile since I listened to any of these Paris shows.

So the DAC-46 one (I deleted) was actually the 4th?

Yep, that's right - I managed to D/L the first disc before Mega/FBI and compared that with 'Alright Charlie Watts' which I have in full (and Erik Snow says is definitely the 4th) and yes the DAC046 is also the 4th........(but much better quality).oh well, as I say though thanks a lot for your efforts......Eddie

Hm...
Excusively to MY taste:
though Earl's Court 2 is more "dimensional", the sound is somehow sharp/harsh, less pleasand to listen. So I'll retain the first remaster.
As far as Paris is concerned probably the same - I prefer the first remaster.
The second has sometimes voice more muffled or more in background though I have to listen to it again.
Thanks anyway for all your efforts to please our ears.
Best,
Greg
P.S.
Yeah... the "colour" of sound tone (or hums from amps as Vancouver wishes) is unpleasant to my ears, so I'm keeping the first version of Paris.

Funny how we hear things differently. i thought the 1st remaster was nasal sounding and this new mix has more clarity by comparison, but you hear harsh sounds. If you have an EQ hooked up, apply a cut between 2kHz and 3kHz to smooth it out.

I posted these last 2 in response to EddieByword's request and as it turns out the June 4th is actually the June 6th show.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!
