Edmonton-97 should be next after this,as it is ex show and a very long one.

This show's gonna take some work. It has different sources within VGP-206 "Canada Dry". There's a mix that sounds like it's from the stage monitor -- "Satisfaction" or "IORR" for example -- then there's an over-loaded compressed mix that sounds like a broadcast -- for example "Let's Spend The Night... -- then there's a muffled mix that sounds like a slightly warped tape -- "Gimme Shelter". Plus the sources and/or sound quality changes in the middle of a song (listen to "Rock And A Hard Place"winking smiley.

I'm putting this one on the back-burner. This shit's supposed to be fun & this show seems more like a pain in the ass. It's never going to sound even, although there's room for improvement.

"Problem" might be this,as you might know, its taken from PRO SHOT video, but back then it was still VHS era,so is it possible that all the extra noise underneath all comes from tape and because VGP has done their own equalizing back then.
Today i´m gettin more those cd´s i use for remastering,if you want i will fix Edmonton, post it here, then you work the rest?
This would take some extra work from your shoulders....

I can deal with "muddy", as long as it's even. I just have a limited portion of time to devote (with work) and when a show is as uneven as this Edmonton, it takes me a long time to get it done.

Marko, I'd appreciate any help you can provide with respect to this show. It's definitely worth remastering, as the performance is spot-on. I have 2 different mixes of the show sitting on my HD now, and I'm not crazy about either of them.

I did a prep version of the source before mastering but it still came out all jacked up. So if you're able to level off the source, that'd be a BIG help!

You're right about the noise presence. Normally it can be eliminated using a dithering filter, which puts out a noise frequency of it's own and cancels out other noises in the process. But so far, I can't get rid of the noise using dither. Here's what I get:

Bitch - Edmonton 10-2-97 remix1

You can hear how it brings up the noise along with the rest of the sound, which to me is unacceptable. So if we can improve the VHS-sounding source, I think we can get this show right.

1997.10.02 Edmonton Remaster (disc 1)

This is disc 1 of the Edmonton remaster I've been working on. This is a temporary post, as I'll upload FLACs of the completed show later. I'm kind of using IORR as a beta group here. Each of these tracks has been mastered seperately, using different settings, and it's gotten to the point where I'm having trouble determining which ones work best. So if I can get these tracks out to some listeners and hopefully get some feedback, then I can make better adjustments and finish the show.

It's already been said, but the source [VGP 206] contains drastically different sound quality throughout. Some of the songs had volume overloads and distortions that couldn't be removed... The 1st 2 songs have only one guitar coming through... I've tracked these things as best I can. But still let me know of anything you hear/detect if you want to help me with this project.
Thanks!

It is "Canada Dry". All the posts here are sourced from existing releases. I usually put the release in parenthesis (VGP, Dandelion, etc), sorry for the confusion. If you're looking for original sources, check Marko's posts. What I'm trying to do -- and what I've been able to do with some other shows -- is apply digital sound processing using mastering software (i.e. Izotope, Sound Solution, Goldwave, etc.) to get a better sound. Some of these bootlegs we share here were mastered years ago, using methods that have since been supplanted by newer and better ones. Some of them were released without enough mastering, some with too much, whatever the case, there's often room for improvement.

You're right, "Canada Dry" isn't that bad. it is after all, a SBD. But I think it can sound better.

I hear you. If time is in demand for you, I recommend staying away from Edmonton. Use your time on other shows. I'm pretty close to finishing my version of it.

Enjoy your weekend.

Marko, is the "Sweet Virginia" on your Pittsburgh remaster really from Pittsburgh? And if so, do you know of it being from a different source or anything? The levels on that track are very different from the rest of the show.

notes:
* SFM originally faded out @ 1:27. Patched with SFM from "Decca Unreleased LP" -- sacrelige, I know :-) but a tape cut is such a jarring way to end this great show.

Minor volume adjustments were done in Goldwave to the source prior to final mastering.

Big thanks to Marko, who supplied an expertly EQ'd source.

Izotope Ozone v1 was used to add ambience and width

Sound Solution v1.31 was used for multiband processing and to even out the levels (there were a number of drop outs).
