NICKY HOPKINS 1972 (UPDATED)
Posted by: dandelion1967 ()

I'm a great Nicky Hopkins fan, and yesterday I've found "the Holy Grail": VGP312 Welcome To New York (1972-07-26, AUD + SBD). A soundboard recording of the best Rolling Stones Tour, but the guitars panned one on the top left and the other at the top right. So I've used Adobe Audition to phase out the guitars and leave the piano alone... the result is this

ALL DOWN THE LINE

LOVE IN VAIN

MIDNIGHT RAMBLER

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT

BYE BYE JHONNY

RIP THIS JOINT

JUMPING JACK FLASH

...and as a bonus... the piano track of Rip this joint of Exile!

Hope you like it as I like it!

You are welcome Quique! Nicky's playing is always amazing, and specially in 1972... an amazing player between amazing player like Bill, Charlie, Keith and Mick (both!)

Some time ago, I heard a tape of the same MSG show in which Taylor, Hopkins and a percussion player on YCAGWYW were very prominent. I think the LP label was Berkeley. Unfortunately, the tape is long gone.

Nicky Hopkins and Jimmy Miller were so important for The Rolling Stones between 1967 and 1974

Below is a link where you can download A BBC 2 Radio program for Nicky Hopkins called "The Nicky Hopkins Story"

Diamonds and Tiaras

Thank you UrbanSteel. The BBC show is amazing, and show us the real genius of Nicky. I'd love to hear Keith speaking about Nicky... both made a really good team! The best Rolling Stones album include Nicky, with a important part. They now seems to give credit to the boys, Jimmy Miller, Nicky, Mick Taylor, reissuing Exile and L&G.

Diamond hard & crystal clear. Could you do that for the whole show, please? Whoo!
