I think this "50th anniversary" tag is a bit pie in the sky to be honest. I doubt the Stones have thought about it much. I'd be amazed if they're still able to tour for any length of time by then anyway.

True. I think they have never been into counting the years - and if I remember right, there is no consensus between them when did they actually started. At least Jagger once was very critical for determining the exact date when they really started to exist.. I think he speculated with the first gig, when Charlie joined, having the record deal, the first record or even first television performance... I think, taking the nature of IN ACCORDING TO THE ROLLING STONES into account, they could claim that The Stones was founded when Mick and Keith met in Dartford railway station or formed Little Boy Blue and The Blues Boys, or when they composed their first song together...
I any case, we should expect the 50th anniversies to begin around 2011 - was that true more or less with 40 LICKS too?

Well Rod and the boys had better have a new cd of new material. That will draw a crowd to the shows, I guess. I personally think it will sell good. Rod should include some solo material to go with the Faces in concert.

I am very excited about this tour... At the same time I have to wonder about what the demand will be for tickets in the US...I could see it being pretty easy to get good tickets.. I also don't expect the front rows to be $400 or what have you.
A lot depends on how much they're willing to spend on advertising and on how cleverly that money gets spent. I think if you're a Rod fan, you've got to be there, and if you're a Stones fan, this is the only game in town right now. As far as price goes, Rod's tickets have always been expensive. These will be more expensive than that, probably much more expensive.
I tend to doubt that. The "Rod" name will help sell some tickets. The fact that Ronnie Wood a current and or ex-stone as the case may be is on the bill may sell some tickets...But honestly I think they will struggle to sell tickets in arenas. If they do play theatres or small arenas, they may be able to sell better. If they do play large arenas, what might help is the now popular idea of having a GA floor and reserved seats.

Rod played solo material with the faces in '72 & 73

They may suprise you.
None of the main participants need the money, even Rod can't be that obsessive about his pension.
Better to sell-out smaller venues than half fill larger ones.
I thnk Rod will include his newer solo material also,as a means of promoting that - a new album of new material is scheduled in the Spring I understand.

They don't NEED the money, but supposedly, one of the sticking points to getting this thing off the ground was that Ronnie WAS holding out for more cash! And if playing for 10,000 people in a 20,000 seat arena is more profitable than playing two sold out shows in a 5,000 seat theatre, then they will take the arena option, and simply use big black curtains to reconfigure the areana into "an intimate theatre setting" (and to make it look as if it's sold out when it's really only half-full).

Much of the audience for the reunion tour will be made up of not-too-well-informed Rod fans, and even less well-informed, casual classic rock fans. They are going to expect a show that is 50% recognizable solo Rod material from the early 70s, and I think that's what we're going to get.

Well, Im not sure you can assume that Mac needs the money because of his venue choice.
He probably realizes what his pulling power is worth. And just enjoys playing live.
None of them should REALLY need the money - for goodness sake!!

Mick's probably keeping a closer eye on the economy.
A reunited Faces sounds great. It could get Rod off auto-pilot and hopefully keep Ronnie out of trouble. (Now if he were touring with Faces circa 1972, that would be extremely troubling to hear.)
To keep Ronnie out of trouble... Hmm.. from outset it might not sound promising, namely if we consider that the essential part of mythical Faces was their constant drinking; the band was a nice excuse to keep a good bunch of drinking buddies together, and have a party every night... and Ronnie is nowadays an on/off rehab guy. And what would the totally straight Faces be like? The same band? Perhaps they could rename themselves... let me help them:

I agree - even in the 80s, Rod was considered very uncool in rocker/cool guy circles. I had two friends who made it clear that they went to the stewart/beck show b/c of jeff beck -NOT rod. His disco was enough to turn many away long ago (i loved it - i was 11 when "do ya..." came out). I'd say they should shoot for large theaters.
