Bad language on IORR - an advice
Posted by: bv ()
Date: September 29, 2008 23:37

If you use inappropriate language on IORR, especially in the subject line, then I will change/remove that language immediately. If someone see bad language on IORR then please use the "Report This Message" under the actual post, so that I can take action.

Why? Because four lettered words who are listed as bad language in any English dictionaly are rated as such, and if they appear on central places on IORR then this site will be unavailable for you if you try to access IORR from work or any other place who normally run regular protection filters these days. And I am sure everyone do want to have easy access to IORR any place any time.

Another reason is that toilet wall language is not really appropriate anyway. It is appealing to kids who want to talk about my and your ding a ling and you know whatever, but not to normal average adult people. Sure the Stones did write a song about Steve McQuinn, but I am sure Mick and Keith does not use the f-word in front of people like their kids, grandkids and so on. It is about common sense and attitude.

Thank you.

I've been wanting to stop swearing after I read this list written by Dear Abby. I used to have it posted on my refrigerator as a daily reminder, perhaps I should post it on my monitor as I've been guilty of swearing on IORR just today. Apologies.

Ten reasons for swearing

1. It pleases Mother so much.
2. It's a fine mark of manliness (or femininity).
3. It proves that I have self control.
4. It indicates how clearly my mind operates.
5. It makes my conversation so pleasing to everybody.
6. It leaves no doubt in anyone's mind as to my breeding.
7. It impresses people that I have more than an ordinary education.
8. It's an unmistakable sign of culture and refinement.
9. It makes me desirable personally among women and children in respectable society.
10. It's my way of honoring God who said, "Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain."

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

i know that critisizing the "big boss" is always a risk and i already see the posts "it's bv's site. respect his rules or let it be."
well i respect it, but the sentence "i'm sure mick and keith dont use the f-word in front of people like their kids...." is one of the funniest things i have ever read here ;-)....oh dear...

and one more thing: how to start a thread about "cs blues", " bitch" , "star star"???

BV......I totally agree with you. It has no place on this board. I don't think the Stones would approve of it.

Still, it can be done with a little bit of effort.

Guitarbastard, isn't it reassuring to know that those guys with the rock 'n roll image put on their slippers as soon as they get home and become all prim and proper, even making sure none of the (grand)children would inadvertently get exposed to any profanities.

Yeah but that's only a typing error. First deal with the error of judgement, which is a bit more serious.

Guitarbastard, how about you leading by example and changing your name to something wholesome like "Celery" ? Before Marlon catches sight of your current screenname and tells his dad about the bad language being used around here.

first of all we need a street team putting "parental advisory" stickers on all the toilet-banquet covers!

Yes, who can we recruit ? Let's ask Jo about growing our own vegetables. Now that she doesn't have to clean up after Ronnie anymore, she might be availabe to lead the cooking courses ? From next year it will be compulsory for everyone reading this forum to follow the macrobiotic guidelines, so there's no time to waste really.
What to do about some of the obscene footage on YouTube ? Can we put stickers on the computerscreens too, we have to stop the innocent members of the new Movement from getting corrupted and traumatised by graphic images and swearing.

Are you sure about that?

Whether we agree with BV on this issue or not, its his site. Show some respect. Simple logic applies here the same as breaking any site's rules--if a few people ignore the rules, they get banned. If enough people ignore the rules, the guy decides its not worth the effort and shuts down the site. Do we really want that? Besides, Gazza has a place for all of us who want to swear at one another (you're welcome for that open invitation for vulgarians everywhere, Gary). I'd be at Rocks Off more myself but my work computer seems to object to the site. I blame Joey.

Myself I think Gazza's site should allow all the swearing. It does not look or sound good. If he allows it he himself must act that way. Not my cup of tea that's for sure.

Whilst I respect BV's thinking and acknowledge he does a stellar job running this site I can't help thinking that bad language and The Rolling Stones are natural bed-fellows.
It's another erosion of Stones values; a bit like 'no standing'at a Stones gig.

As someone earlier intimated, there's a world of difference between bad language and ugly language.

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

I wonder if Mick and Keith use the c-word in front of people like their kids, grandkids and so on ?

@#$%& Blues
(aka Schoolboy Blues)
(Jagger/Richards)

Well, I'm a lonesome schoolboy
And I just came into town
Yeah, I'm a lonesome schoolboy
And I just came into town
Well, I heard so much about London
I decided to check it out

Well, I wait in Leicester Square
With a come-hither look in my eye
Yeah, I'm leaning on Nelsons Column
But all I do is talk to the lions

Oh where can I get my cock sucked?
Where can I get my ass @#$%&?
I may have no money,
But I know where to put it every time

Well, I asked a young policeman
If he'd only lock me up for the night
Well, I've had pigs in the farmyard,
Some of them, some of them, they're alright
Well, he @#$%& me with his truncheon
And his helmet was way too tight

Oh where can I get my cock sucked?
Where can I get my ass @#$%&?
I ain't got no money,
But I know where to put it every time

I'm a lonesome schoolboy in your town
I'm a lonesome schoolboy

As I understand it, the main concern is that the use of expletives on the board might
cause a lot of "family filters" to block this wonderful site. I think that is a valid
reason to be careful with our choice of words. Otherwise it would be a bit against the
freedom of speech to edit posts because of the language. But as it is BV's site, I guess
we all have to do what he wants. I would not want visitors in my house to use
hard drugs.
I guess that would not be a problem for some of the Stones. So I am not really
impressed by the use of the boys as an example for the way I should behave. I only follow
their music, not their lifestyle.
