It was from a "Rock Music History" collection and of course the Rolling Stones was nº1.

It is all very interesting, but prompts me to ask WHY ARE SO MANY STONES FANS SO ANAL?

Time passes, experience is had, the band plays on. What point momentoes? Hang on? Hanker on?

A friend once said after his epic journey across africa on a motorbike, "why take photos? The photos are emblazoned in my head of the experience i have had". I had difficulty with that statement at the time but am reminded of the perspective by this thread.

Hello CousinC,

... mostly it is really Rock Music, some easy listening things - no elevator music !! -, mostly focussed hence on Sax, instrumental music.
I don't think anybody from the Stones is playing on it, but as you see some other interesting guest appearances....

Guest apprearances by:
Jack Bruce (John Symon Asher), Charlie Freeman, Jim Gordon, George Harrison, Nicky Hopkins, Corky Laing, Dave Mason, Felix Pappalardi, Jim Price, Carl Radle, Ringo Starr, John Uribe, Michael/Mike Utley, Klaus Voorman(n), Leslie West

As you see on the photo, keyplayer are Jim Price, engineers Andy Johns, Chris Kinsey who also engineered some Stones records before 1972 (when this record was released) and after (Exile ...).

JR,
a friend of mine informed me that on the last issue of Record Collector there's a mention of the Satanic silk pad, in a section dedicated to the 200 rarest records.
Can you check? I've not this issue.

Straycat58 ... just before JR is awaken, a quick answer from me... JR, please correct me if I'm wrong

Yes the latest issue lists the top 200 rarities in RC651 (I ordered it, but not arrived yet). I just checked my former RC330 from December 2006 which lists also the 250 most valuable records from our time and from UK, where this TSMR is also listed, see scan. Let's see, how price increased meanwhile, but I ait for a proofed photo of this silk screent (even if there was a scan in this thread, which looks great, not knowing exactly whether or not it's a DIY sleeve or Original silk padded sleeve ... :-))

... so as you see (I wasn't fast enough with my post - thanks to Rockman ...
Price increased again ... but still no official photo ...

Ciao Andreas,
the description doesn't correspond to the velvet pad TSMR I've seen in my friend's collection. In this article they claime the whole LP is included in a padded silk sleeve, which I assume is like a sort of bag mad eof silk.
Mmmmh; let's wait the RC issue!

Ciao Vanni,
since the first RC top rarities issues I'm waiting for a picture to have at least an idea how it looks like, but it's such a rarity, nobody really knows ... (like the quest for the holy grail smiling smiley

I bought Satanic Majesties with 3D at a booty for £7.....

Top day and its mint.

Very good price ablett, congrat.
One day, when we have time, we should list all the TSMR 3D issues worldwide.Still I'm not sure I've them all (ah yes, I miss the Canadian and I'm not so sure about some South Americans).

BTW, I still wonder who decided to use the Reims Labyrinth and the reason behind it. And what is the meaning of It's here in the centre of the labyrinth.

Another coincidence, the same day of the Satanic picture session in New York, with Michael Cooper, the Stones announced theire divorce from Andrew Oldham. Should be Sept. 13 or 14.

have a look at this one:

[cgi.ebay.ch]

very interesting, it's a reissue dated October 1982. Few copies were reissued in UK with 3D cover and new Decca label. The spine is different because it's white and reports both stereo and mono catalogue number (I hope this one in the auction corresponds to what I'm describing, otherwise the owner has used an old cover to house a later vinyl). Not many collectors know about this 3D reissue which is more difficult to find than the original 67 ones.
I have it already, so it's for you.

... funny are the german sampler issues in the sixties, where a uncommon selection of titles happened, Stones sings togehter with german "Schlager", but these records are collectable for "completists" ...
(here also some UK sampler)

Until proven otherwise I don't believe the "padded silk" TSMR actually exists. The only person I know who claims to have one happens to have been proved less than perfectly honest before. If anyone has actually held one in their hands please step forward. As for Record Collector until someone honest that actually has one shows it JR and I have advised them to dump it from their listing. If anything I think there is confusion between the "velvet pad" and the "padded silk" like chinese whispers. The affore mentioned collector doesn't have the greatest command of the English language (I know I can't spell etc...). It is therefore my current believe that they are one and the same thing. Now the question still remains is the "velvet pad" home made or official.....

P.S. I will be posting more stuff soon, I just need a break to reorganise and start photographing more stuff....

... and here my triple testpressing set "Essential Rolling Stones" or "History of the Rolling Stones", which is the rarest item I own (by means of money I spent and likely numbers of existing sets /6 are believed to exist, but who really knows/). This is the set I spent much time for searching (first I bought record 1 and 3, hoping to ever get record 2 ... and finally I got it after years of waiting, that's why the label writing differs). Identification only by matrix-numbers - and songs, hence :-)
