That's exactly what I mean too. It doesn't fit, does it ? Someone that's obviously very gifted and still he finds it necessary to pick on his bandmate when Woody can't keep up anymore.

Perhaps it's like me and my sister. I cringe when I see her acting a certain way, and yet, sometimes I act the exact same way. I just can't stand it, it reminds me of a side of myself I don't like.

I've seen other people do this sort of thing. Maybe he's picking on Ronnie cuz he can't pick on himself. ya know?

Never read "George Thorogood was being secretly rehearsed to replace Ronnie in '81." Just that he was being thought of to REPLACE Ronnie for the tour.

Rehearse?

HA HA!

Rehab is for quitters. I have an idea - why don't you go to rehab so you can quit?

Putting stupid posts on here, I mean. Oh wait - that's unimaginative.

Say something brilliant! Now that's imaginative.

I dont think woody was ever in any real danger of losing his job to george thorogood, it was just a fall back incase ronnie was unable to function, besides wouldnt that be the pot calling the kettle black on mick n keiths part

On one hand this is unbelievably tragic; like a new Mandy Smith-affair.
On the other this would be biz as usual if Mick, only she would have been taller.
On the third hand who would nOt drink if off-tour for the first time in four years.

Sure Ron will get his act together.

Holy shit.
I've been gone for a few days and have just now caught up on this tragic story.
God Bless Ron Wood.
I've got a terrible feeling about this one...

Ronnie, Love and Strength to you. Life is Beautiful. Keep smiling and keep going.

I must've missed what Keith said. I'll dig thru the thread to
find it but...if you could fill me in, it would be appreciated.

Maybe he's trying the "tough love" technique.
Or maybe with age one loses their patience.

With all respect due to Thorogood(and he IS great at what he does) The idea of him replacing Ron is silly. He's not capable of some of the lead work required.IMO

the gir's mother speaks to press.
(daily mail via herald sun au)
___________

"ROLLING Stone Ronnie Wood exploited the Russian teenager he whisked off to Ireland, her furious mother claimed yesterday.

Irina Ivanova says her daughter Ekaterina hoped to make a fortune modelling for Wood's paintings, but was then talked into posing nude, dumped when he returned home and handed just pound stg. 900.

She spoke out as the Rolling Stone finally checked into rehab, returning home from Ireland to face his wife, Jo.

Mrs Ivanova, 45, also said she believed her 19-year-old daughter had a sexual relationship with the musician, 61, though she had denied it.

Mrs Ivanova said: "Katia told me, 'Believe me mother, I have done nothing wrong'.

"But she is my daughter. I know her voice. She said one thing. I think different."

"She loves him. She is so proud to be next to him.

"I know my daughter and I think yes, she loves him."

Wood abandoned his family and wife of 23 years after meeting Katia, a cocktail waitress, in a seedy escort bar in April, whisking her away to his County Kildare mansion, promising to pay her pound stg. 300 a day indefinitely.

The pair were holed up there for two weeks, but after Wood's wife threatened to dump him he returned and is now in rehab, his spokesman confirmed last night.

Mrs Ivanova said her daughter was living in London with friends and her relationship with the rocker was on hold.

She said: "I don't think they are completely over. But she will not do the running. She does not need to go to rehab. She is not an alcoholic."

"I'm not a fan of the Rolling Stones at all. I prefer the Beatles much more. But that doesn't mean I would like to see her run off with Paul McCartney. I would prefer she wasn't with any old rock stars at all."

"She is so depressed. She is crying a lot. I think this will be good experience for her for her own life."

Mrs Ivanova concluded: 'I am happy Ronnie is back with his family. Back with his family is where he should be."

Wood's publicist said there was no comment. "

His close family and friends look forward to his recovery.
Thank you for all your kind messages of support."

Reasonable yes, but one thing that just sticks in my mind is that few days ago she claimed that she was a huge fan of the Stones, and now she denies that and talks, of course, about the Beatles... angry smiley

Anyway, it looks like that Ronnie's son is the true hero in this sad story.

I suspect that Rod Stewart is going to be more of a supoort to Ronnie at this time more than any of The Stones (and I'm not meaning due to any possible Faces reunion).

He has faced his own demons(to a degree) over the years but I remember an interview with Stewart years ago when he was talking about Ronnie Lane's health problems and how he and Ronnie Wood helped out with medical bills. I recall Rod saying something like "if you've got a few bob and you can help a mate, you do it." I'm no Rod Stewart fan but for all his many faults he seems very down to earth and connected.

>> and now she denies that <<

these quotes contradict quite a few things that she was reported as saying a few days ago.
i can't find any use for the lurid embroidery from the tabloids, so i'll stick with what the BBC and Ronnie's site say:
Ronnie's in rehab, and that's great news. all kinds of blessings & well-being & strength on him and his family.

Re: Ronnie Ronnie Ronnie

I know from personal experience how heartbreaking, frightening, unsettling, destabilizing and downright frustrating it is to live with a person vulnerable to alcohol. It is an insidious weakness and a grotesque, almost inexplicable disease. It is like living next to a ticking time bomb. No matter how long it has been since the last relapse...no matter how rational and happy and diligent they have been you're never more than a flash moment away from the next disaster. As much as you may love the person, there are times when you literally want to strangle the life out of them and be done with the long drawn-out tragedy. Ronnie's family must be going through hell...not to mention the humiliation of going through this in public. The Slavic Slut 'model' claiming true love is just further icing on the shite cake.

I've sometimes been very critical of Ronnie's playing and unprofessional conduct - and I've not always been a big fan of his musicianship. I've been to several Stones concerts in the last 33 years where Ronnie played hardly a significant note, some where he utterly ruined several songs (a gig in Cologne in 2006 comes to mind), and others where his mediocrity was utterly dispiriting. But I've been to others where he was firing on all cylinders (some shows in 1975 and 1978) and was on fire, and others where he was excellent and literally saved the night...including several concerts during summer 2007 where if it not for Ronnie's steady hand the Stones would have been a complete train wreck. I was disappointed that he did not contribute more to ABB...also as a consequence of his demon bouts...yet at other times he was right there on the front lines. Through it all - the ups and the downs - he's been a true Stone.

Yes, he is unstable...and exasperating...and also very lovable. Never mind all that. The fact is that we all owe him a HUGE debt of gratitude for all he has done for the band in the last 3 decades. Without Mr. Wood's mitigating presence and loyal friendship the chances of the Stones having survived their fallouts would have been very doubtful to nil. For this alone he is a hero. He may not have created an musical imprint as profound as Brian Jones, and his recorded output and live playing may not have the brilliance of Mick Taylor's...but he's been a loyal trouper, an occasionally excellent musician, and a soul-brother. The truth is he has pulled their nuts from the fire more than several times. Let's stand by him and his family in his time of need - there is no need to tastelessly contemplate on his "replacement" when he is down and out - showing our loyalty to Ronnie and respect for his family at this moment is the least we can do for a guy who has given so much of himself for the band.

I hope he gets it together and becomes once again a crucial creative element in new Stones music...and I'm looking forward to seeing him live again, standing where he belongs...with his band, stage right, grimacing as he snaps stinging notes from his guitar - hopefully from some hot new songs - and powering the Stones through another night of thrills and spills. Get well, Ronnie!

Diamond rings, Vaseline, you gave me disease, well, I lost a lot of love over you.

Oh, show me round your snow peaked

Take me to your daddy's farm
Let me hear your balalaika's ringing out
