Nice thread this is. By pure coincidence I was playing the El Mocambo Side this very moment (for the first time in years). And yes, side four is wild! What a great way to start this Sunday!

Btw, in the end of the introductions Keith also says something about Jagger, but I could never figure it out. Does anybody know what he's saying?

For me it always sounded more like Keith. Hmm, I'd better listen to it again now.

it's definitely Ronnie who says "old bum's-rush Jagger"
and isn't it Mick who says "where's Billy? Billy's gone".
Keith wasn't talkin too much that night, apparently - just playing his elegant ass off.

Oh gosh, what Keith fan am I? I cannot even distinguish between Woody's and Keith's voice on the LYL album! Oh my, I'm so ashamed! eye popping smileysad smiley (Usually I can, so why the hell did I always assume it was Keith saying whatever it was the guy was saying? "Old Bum's-rush Jagger."? lol)

Well yeah, I already threw this thing in when Mick said. "Where's Billy? Billy!? Billy's gone!" So funny.

Hmm....maybe I wasn't right about this voice saying that about Jagger and thought it was Keith, because what I had once figured is, that there are very few videos or something, where Keith apparently is on drugs or whatever, and when he's in that kinda state he sometimes does sound very similar to Ronnie? Did anyone of you guys ever notice that too? Or did I just made it up. lol No, I'm pretty sure.

smile: nah, you just made it up, CharliMoon. maybe Keith radar just takes some time to finetune -
i've only been adjusting mine for 45 years now ... smoking smiley

by the way, that "bum's rush" line is a rather elaborate pun - maybe not every iorrian knows the expression
"to give someone the bum's rush" meaning to unceremoniously eject someone from a place -
like a beggar who's wandered into a posh party - or to dismiss someone abruptly.
when you combine that with "bum" meaning "butt" (and "rush" meaning "rush" ), Ronnie's reply
alludes to Mick's bi/gay cavorting. so it's a very witty response to Mick's introduction of Ronnie.

Re: the El Mo

and back to the subject of Keith playing his elegant ass off ... this isn't humour,
and it's not on LYL, but it's one of the all-time great paragraphs about the Stones' music,
and it is about the march 5th El Mo show, so ... so here it is:

"Keith Richards ... glowed with an internal combustion that I'm not sure any scientist in the Western world could identify.
Or would want to. As if there was any possibility that this could have been the last Rolling Stones concert ever,
Keith reached into his back pocket or somewhere for licks and notes he surely had not hit in years
and in Jumping Jack Flash he ... sounded again as if he was wired directly into some pulsating black hole in space.
He played good is what I mean to say and when Keith is on, ain't nobody can touch him."
- Chet Flippo in On the Road With the Rolling Stones

... I'm sure Keith was a bit distracted, and a little sore from the RCMP slapping him around.

I think Lady sssoul has it right. I enjoyed this wonderful document again Saturday. For some reason, I don't play it much - it's a wonderful reminderof Elmo's senior year in "high" school - 16 years old!

i always thought it was "Charlie Watts is open to himself maybe" - a follow-up to
"Billy is open to offers - i wouldn't say 'up for grabs' but open to offers" (or whatever it is)
Always thought it was that Charlie was MAYBE open for offers, or MAYBE gay, but he doesn't know it himself, or whatever... Referring to the Ron and Billy-introductions. But then again, I'm Norwegian, and not very good at interpreting english "inside" humour and jokes.

smile: well, if you consider the context of those shows, that second meaning of the statement
was quite pointedly witty, even if it wasn't quite accurate. and after all the first meaning
is thoroughly accurate, so that makes up for a slight - ahem - exaggeration in the second sense. :E

So a bum's rush is what we call an "Arschtritt" in Germany (kick in the ass)...?

well ... it's not what we call a kick in the ass in English, so ... i'm not sure!
more like "hurriedly getting someone out of a place (as if they were a bum who'd wandered in)"
or (in the secondary meaning) "rudely cutting an attempted conversation short".

How about a permanent residency at the El Mocambo? Then we could go to Canada whenever we needed to see them.

Hmmmmm.... no.

I realize there is no COMPLETE El Mocambo boot, but i thought maybe this was a compilation of what is out there on boots, Love You Live, Sucking..., etc, compiled into one disc. By your (friendly) reaction, I guess not.

Had you not been so sarcastic, maybe I would have returned the favor by posting my "Complete Sir Morgans" boot!
