There was an item in a thread recently mentioning a song 'Blame It On The Rolling Stones'(?) I think it may have been by a country artist. Can't remember.

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

She was playing in a band and

That was Kris Kristofferson

Blame It On The Stones:

Blame it on the stones; blame it on the stones
Youll feel so much better, knowing you dont stand alone
Join the accusation; save the bleeding nation
Get it off your shoulders; blame it on the stones

Mother tells the ladies at the bridge club every day
Of the rising price of tranquilizers she must pay
And she wonders why the children never seem to stay at home
Blame it on the rolling stones.

Deep Purple - Smoke on the water

We all came out to Montreux
On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didn't have much time

......
......

We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
Making our music there

Winds Of Change - Eric Burdon

There are winds of changes blowing
Gathering leaves up in its path
And the people who are the leaves
Will remain in our hearts
With love, till eternity

King Elmore was born,
So was Duke Ellington
Jelly Roll made love
Bessie Smith was created in heaven above
Robert Johnson sang the blues
Chick Webb did those things that only he could do
Charlie Christian started a new thing
And, oh my, how Billie Holiday could sing
Alan Freed rock and rolled,
Joe Turner's voice was very low
B.B. King wailed
Charlie Parker cried
Louis Jordan smiled
Ray Charles moaned,
Chuck Berry rock and rolled
Fats Domino made me feel good
Elvis Presley did things that no one thought he could

Then came the Beatles, Rolling Stones
Whole new thing was going on.
Frank Zappa zapped
Mamas and Papas knew where it was at
They all listened to Ravi Shankar .
Now that we got Jimi Hendrix
We know where we are (and Louis Jordan smiled )
And the winds of change go on blowing, blowing,
Gathering more and more leaves in its path,
As time goes past

Winds of change keep on blowing,
Winds of change keep on blowing,
Bob Dylan sang about the winds of change
Blowing, it's all blowing, the winds of change

Don Mclean - American Pie:

So come on: jack be nimble, jack be quick!
Jack flash sat on a candlestick
Cause fire is the devil’s only friend.

Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

"Jigsaw Puzzle"
The Rolling Stones

Oh the singer, he looks angry
At being thrown to the lions
And the bass player, he looks nervous
About the girls outside
And the drummer, he's so shattered
Trying to keep on time
And the guitar players look damaged
They've been outcasts all thier lives

or how about preceding that with the song that asks the question: "Are You a Beatle or a Rolling Stone" by Delaney Bramlett (from his album Mobius Strip)?

Dolly Dagger - Jimi Hendrix. There was a bit of competition between Hendrix and Mick Jagger over a woman called Devon Wilson and this song is partly about that.

"Here comes Dolly Dagger,
Her love's so heavy gonna make you stagger
Dolly Dagger
She ain't satisfied 'til she gets what she's after
She drinks the blood from a jagged edge
Alright
Watch out Devon
You give me a little bit of that heaven"

"All that you offered when we asked for an answer/
Was a cloud of smoke to hide behind/
The words that you use mean we can't understand you/
Pictures don't help so you'll have to use signs"

I'll Take The Hand Of Whatever Will Guide me - The Stan Sermons

Although that verse doesn't mention Keith, it's about him, referring to the fact that he often gives the same old answer, partly to strengthen the Keef mythology (as being discussed in another thread on this board at the minute).
