I can feel it, this movie is going to be great. Yeah, we will always have some bitching regardless of what comes out. I am actually looking forward to the double cd too.

>> Yeah, we will always have some bitching <<

oh dear: Bashlets wants to keep talking about the criticisms people had?! you keep bringing them up,
so you must want to keep discussing them - oh well, i can say more about them, if you *really* want!
but remember: calling an 8.5/10 rating "bitching" is an exaggeration; everyone who saw it
had miles of positive things to say, even if most people joining the discussion seemed more interested
in focussing on the few things the "Berlin reviewers" didn't like so much.

i'd still love hear more about what Scorsese fans expect his direction to bring to a Stones concert film
besides high-quality production. maumau kindly tried to explain about formalism and fiction and so on,
but that was a bit too abstract for me. this article Kent posted (thanks, and i know i'm welcome!)
calls him an "operatic" director - i think i can relate that to Shine a Light. and i'd love to hear more.

one interesting thing, which may or may not be related to formalism, fiction, etc:
there were a couple of points where thoroughly Stoned people (and probably no one else) will notice
that he evidently asked the Stones to demonstrate that putting all that energy into a show tuckers them out.
like: "you make it look too easy - show me some exhaustion!" :E
what an interesting thing to want to convey - and hail hail Rolling Stones

just saw Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus tonight (in 3d) and they had a preview for U23D, and it made me think, that the Stones should have done a concert film this tour in 3D; maybe not the Beacon shows as that would not seem to be a scorcesse thing, but that technology has advanced so much since the ridiculous 200 Light YEars from home attempt on the Steel Wheels pay per view, i think it would be great to see the Stones do it (again) now.

PS, I am not a pedophile, I brought my daughter to see the above mentioned show!

I saw the U2 movie. it was good but I think the 3D is just a gimmick. Plus it's annoying sitting there with those stupid glasses on.

we went to see House of Wax in 3Dmany years ago. Very enjoyable, of course, but the highlight was
the girl walking out of the movie theatre, gasping: [size=medium

"I'm still seeing 3D!"[/size]]

I agree with what you say, but those of us here have seen the Stones in concert on film every which way possible thru their releases and boots. This would be a nice gimmick to try out for one show; when Mick runs to the wings they can make it look like he is coming right out into the theater audience. The U2 previews seemed pretty good, of course they may have just shown the few good moments in the poreview and the rest was not special. Anyway, as this thread reaches close to 30 pages I just thought I'd try and take it in a new direction.

No problem HalfNanker. But the U2 movie was good anyway and Bono did all those kind of 3d tricks with the mike stand making it look like it was comeing right at you. So I see what you mean.

Here's an interesting sidelight. Sorry for the poor translation, maybe open-g or another can help out.

Nerve wins at the Berlinale

Wolfgang Krause is not a celebrity - and was never a celebrity. With the film industry, he has nothing to do. He is not even a film journalist.

Nevertheless, he succeeded in something, of which millions of people can only dream of: In the past week, he has not only managed to be without any legitimacy directly to the red carpet premiere at the Berlinale to smuggle in touch with stars like singer Mick Jagger, actress Goldie Hawn and director Martin Scorsese. He has also been on fertiggebracht adventurous way to do with the 1600 film Celebrities occupied hineinzuschleichen hall.

"With a mixture of nerve and courage," says the owner of the restaurant Le Midi -"and with a lot of luck." Actually, Krause hoped officially with a ticket reinzukommen. "But there was nothing to do, even Mick Jagger got only 60 tickets for his friends - even though he had 150 orders."

Nevertheless, he decided to, in an elegant evening dress direction premiere cinema to roam and just to see if he is not yet somehow kann. Schon come in early seemed to projects doomed to failure: "Even the journalists were sharply controlled." However, the startled him. "I gave my phone to the ear, did so, as if I am busy - and simply marched past.

Suddenly, I was among the paparazzi. "In the following hours, he was witness to a unique Star parades: Stones boss Mick Jagger, rock legend Neil Young, singer Patty Smith, actress Hannelore Elsner - these were just a few celebrities who directly in front of him built to ZDF giving interviews. Pausenlos clicked his Digi-Cam - better photographs should also professional photographers next to him barely have made.

Meanwhile: His project, Jagger the book on the Stones appearance in 1965 in Munster to give failed. As the stars were vorbeigezogen, Krause is not wanted to accept that evening for him to be gone. "I crept through a side entrance unobserved, then through a stairwell, and finally through another door - until I suddenly middle of the premiere cinema hall again." Front the Stones, before him Hannelore Elsner and Mario Adorf.

Because no seat was available, he pursued the opening of the festival from the edge and standing. And because he was once in it, he enjoyed even then with a friend the premiere party - until 4 o'clock at night.

"I have spoken with the Makatsch, Schweiger, hello 'said Joschka Fischer seen. It was just great. "At least there was his fear disappeared, because in between, so Krause, he had, in fact, twice to flee toilets," to reassure me again ".

At the end everything went well. For the Münster is the evidence: "Where there is a will, there's a way."

Yeah, that was a great, insightful review the one by Bryan Appleyard. Thanks kent for sharing it!

We Stones fans are blessed - with other things - of excellent, important, or other way intersting, and time capturing movies of the Stones. Just think of it: CHARLIE IS MY DARLING, SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL, GIMME SHELTER, CS BLUES; LADYS AND GENTLEMEN, LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER... and now A SHINE A LIGHT makes a strong contribution to the list. And I mean, these are not just DVDs, TV shows or videos capturing certain tours or performances, but real cinema movies, made by 'real' directors with their own personal visons of how (and why) to do it. It's this sense of continuing a tradition Scorsese seem to get himself involved with. In the way he discusses with Godard or the Maysles brothers with his own effort. Just by reading the reviews - and not yet seeing the actual film - I have the feeling that Scorsese has made the most strongest and most lasting manifestation of the current 'late-day' Stones, and of their significance, for the generations to come.

What - you mean a film that hasnt even been released yet??

thats not really a crazy question. i've been D/Ling movies for a long time now, and in the past few years more movies are getting out before release dates. The Departed was one that got out 2 weeks before date.
so far, i haven't seen SAL. lol

2 weeks before it was in cinemas or 2 weeks before it was released on DVD?

Apart from a couple of nights in cinemas in Berlin last week, SAL wont be getting a cinema release for another two months.

and if you do find it wouldnt it be a bootlegged copy some guy filmed with his camcoder or cell phone off the screen? I actually got to see both Pirates 3, and Oceans 13 right before too, and this is what I got. Save your money for the real deal.

Live With Me behind "LINKS"

Loving Cup does not sound to great to me.. it's missing that drive, the piano (live it's very low and it has not that feel).. The original (studio) is way better!

She Was Hot is great!

The overall (production) sound is really bad.. just like with
Live Licks .. as thin as ice... It's missing something, i cannot hear it without
any annoyance to the sound. Needs a lot more bass or something.

The guitar sound is nice though (especially in She Was Hot).

No word yet on where in LA Shine A Light is going to play.

Well that's got to be the poorest performance of Start Me Up I've ever heard. Sympathy is not very good either. I can't get the screen to show me the whole thing nor any other songs to come up! WTF????
