Minimum Time for Tour Announcements for 1) Asia; 2) US; 3) Europe
Posted by: timbernardis ()

What is the minimum time for a tour announcement in advance of the first gig?

And I mean in the context of:

a) the most recent tour in each area;

b) short tours (few dates) in each of those 3 areas; and

c) the time of year -- winter and spring (Europe - summer??).

Any other contextual factors I missed?

I will feed all the results into a computer and calculate 1) if; and 2) when the band will be touring, or not.

Pending the results of such calculations, I am not to be held liable for any future realities.

Typically in the Pacific a show is announced and on sale 75-90 days prior to the event.

timbernardis, No worries mate, I got the latest date possible for each region right here (go ahead and boot up the computer):

ASIA 2008 Shows - Last Date for Announcement: NOVEMBER 10th, 2007

USA 2008 - Last date for Announcement: DECEMBER 10th, 2007

EUROPE 2008 - Last Date for Announcement: January 9th , 2008

Let's crunch those numbers and see what we get !!!!

Don't thank me. Thank the IORR News Archives yawning smiley)
And I don't know whether it gives any actual hope of a 2008 tour. Just an idea of how far or short in advance previous shows in Asia were announced.
I think much more would be known at this point, if there will be shows this Spring.

Any idea when we were sure they were going to tour back then even if the tour wasn't officially announced yet?

It looks like they have moved the Asia plans until 2009. This is not the first time they move Asian tours. With plans for a complete Asian tour I assume it got too complicated to do it at this stage. Still I hear rumours about NYC spring.

Generally, these days, I would expect the Stones to announce a tour any place in the world with a maximum of 2-3 months. Mind you they are getting older and they don't want to have long term commitments. They do tours bits by bits. Large tours need scheduling and 1-3 months pre-sales in Europe and North America. For the rest of the world they might show up on one month notice, but they would need to activate crew, rehearsals and booking of venues, and there are always some leaks, so they will not just pop out from nowhere. Relax!

well, if asia is postponed to '09, technically it's still "on" and so my friend would technically be right. you'll get the shows, you just have to wait.

I'd appreciate a little gig in, like, Hungary, Czechia, Sweden.. Some year, like.. 2010?

Well Asia, Tokyo specifically is only a 7 hour flight from Hawaii, just an hour longer than going to West Coast North America from here, so if it's 2009 then there's more time to plan for it.

Maybe by 2009 they'll be ready to play additional regions other than Asia as 4 years will have passed since the opening of the ABB tour?

well, NY in spring indicates an intimate date with a stripped-down band to promote the release of Shine A Light. hope it does not shrink down to three or four songs at a press conference, but at the moment it smells like that...

I simply cannot imagine weeklong rehearsals including all backing musicians for just one show or even a string of shows at, lets say, the MSG. too much effort.

I agree, it is starting to sound like SMU, BS and IORR.
