Yes, cool tale.

well ... love & light to any Mr Jimmies who can use it of course, but
this is one of several theories about who the one in the song might be
and what the drugstore scenario refers to.

Should be news to Jimmy Phelge, too!

one of my first posts here was on that subject and in the replies I heard this story for the forst time.

However, i always thought James Phelge's version of he and Mick being sick and going to the drug store during that winter in Edith Grove was the more reliable genesis of the lines...

I always thought this was a bulsh*t story.

The Hutmacher meeting happened in 1964. I can't imagine Mick even remembering such an insignificant chance meeting, much less being inspired to write a verse about it 4 or 5 years later!

IMO, Mr Jimmy was Jimmy Miller. I distinctly remember reading an interview with Mick (God knows how long ago or where) where he talked about how back when Jimmy Miller was producing them that they would run a song idea by him and if he didn't like it, he would utter the word "dead". Obviously, that wasn't the response they wanted, thus, YCAGWYW! (I have tried in vain to locate that interview, if anybody else recalls it please help me out!).

Kudos to Hutmacher for elevating himself to folk legend status with this story, but I just don't buy it!

RIP, alleged Mr Jimmy!

Ross
