Keef definitely doesn't remember meeting Elvis, that's for sure...lol

... what do you mean, nr1?
pretty normal that Keith doesn't remember it if it never happened

of course Keith does know Elvis's guitarist Scotty Moore -
some nice footage, photos & stories on this site here, if you hunt around a little: [www.scottymoore.net]

True, but would he remember even if he did? I heard Keef say he doesn't remember the 60's or the 70's...

I think I have it on DVD somewhere where Keef saw Elvis perform (Vegas Hilton?) but never got to hook up backstage...does that sound familiar?

I have read that Elvis detested the Stones. Not musically but because of their image, drug use, etc.

There was the story about his visit with Richard Nixon during which he volunterred to narc on the Beatles, Stones, etc.

Elvis asked Keef to get him 2 big macs and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich while he (Elvis) excused himself to go sit on the john, On the way out of the hotel keef saw the bar, well he never made it past the bar, hung out there for hours and forgot why he was even in that hotel. The next morning he heard Elvis died and Keef responded, "Oh what a shame, I think I was supposed to hang with him yesterday."

But they did attend his concerts and thought he was groovy, right?

I've never read anything about the Stones attending his concerts. Theyd need to have been in the US between August 1970 and June 1977 to have done so as that was the only period and part of the world in which he toured post-1957 (aside from two Las vegas seasons in August 69 and Feb 70)

Elvis only even played New York one time (MSG in June 1972) and the Stones were playing LA that weekend.

Ronnie did, along with the other Faces, in 1972. he didn't meet him, though.

They gave Phelge a hard time for his Elvis-fanship.
But eventuelly they started diggin' him, as I got it.
Bill seems to have been lurvin' him all the time.

two massive recording artists that never crossed paths... it was probably so, but i cant help thinking it was the way it was meant to be..
im sure the stones were fully aware of Elvis' type of 70s concert - 80% melody with the occasional polk salad annie type rock thrown in and it probably wouldnt have appealed -
the same with elvis - an elder statesman that saw the stones as his more youthfull era (which may have been a bitter pill to swallow)..

i dont believe personally that Elvis' narcotic stance was important to him as we are led to believe and this would not have detered him from wanting to meet the stones..

Elvis' narcotic statements were merely to appear good in the eyes of certain people that would help him fulfil his real quest - which was to collect badges..

He should have met the stones as im sure he would have been presented with a very nice 'tongue and lip badge'..

John Paul Jones & I think Led Zep's manager visited Elvis at his LA home in the 70s while LZ were on tour there. JPJ gave Elvis his Mickey Mouse watch & Elvis gave JPJ a very expensive watch in return. Apparently, Elvis told JPJ that he dug LZ's music.

David Bowie attended one of Elvis's NYC concerts around '72 decked out in full Ziggy Stardust regalia with make up and flame red hair. He is said to have caused quite a stir.

excellent trivia...

i know Elvis gave Tom Jones a gold necklass \ cross... it was a 'big mother' as well as you can often see pics of Tom in it..

i wonder what gifts (if any) the stones traded with their counterparts they did meet - such as guns n roses \ tyler and others?...

i think i would personally rather have trivia such as one of Jaggers concert football tops framed - than an expensive item of gold..

Wasn't there supposed to have been a plan to have Elvis and Stones play a pay per view concert together in 70's? I am sure I read it somewhere, if this is true I wonder why it never happened?

First I've heard of it. No way would something like that ever have come off anyway with Parker involved.

Agree with Doughboy about the narcotic/police badge stuff.

regarding Zeppelin, I think the whole band went to see Elvis' show in LA in the early 70's and he may have met them. They did actually offer to be his house band, apparently!

Dylan's song "Went to see the Gypsy" is apparently about going to see Elvis performing in Las Vegas (whether its based on an actual event seems to be debatable). They never met, however.

my pleasure Gazza honey :E
Mac writes about it in All the Rage, and Ronnie mentions it in The Works.
the show they went to was in Vegas, apparently in august 72, and Mac says they almost got kicked out
for getting all worked up when Elvis dusted off some rockers. which sounds just like the Faces :E
