Hello everyone. It's your CousinLou here. Well, the rumors were true. There was a private screening of "Shine A Light" at NYC's Ziegfeld theater last night. All I can say is WOW. Stonesfans are in for a real treat. The sound is awesome, and there is plenty of humorous old footage of band member interviews. Most of the concert footage is from the 2nd night. The movie gives you some insight as to how Mick goes about picking the setlist (which hopefully will stop the whining) and why Keith is not thinking when he's on stage. The DVD which is sure to have plenty of extra footage is what will be the real prize. 8 terrabytes of memory were used to record the footage (a normal film uses about 1 terrabyte) because they had 18 cameras running the night of the show. I'm hoping they'll include more backstage antics.
And oh yeah...Mick Jagger came down with L'wren and sat right behind me. The screening was for him. I met him after the movie. He's larger than life, but appears to be very gracious man. Luckily, I had a copy of S.T.P with me,and he autographed the book.
Here's the setlist from what I remember: JJF Shattered She was Hot All Down the Line Loving Cup Just My Imagination Far Away Eyes As Tears Go By Some Girls Champagne and Reefer Tumbling Dice You got the Silver Connection (was overdubbed with interviews and other excerpts) Sympathy Live with Me Start Me Up Brown Sugar Satisfaction
Mick was right behind me on my left. L'wren was directly behind me. Mick was making a few comments during the movie but it hard to make out what he was saying. The music was loud.
wow lucky u lou! i cannot wait to get a feel for the camera work from the stellar team Scorsese assembled, as much as the songs live I'm looking forward to the work. ie. hoping for something way more than the standard concert fare ala BiggestBang.
rechecking that track list ... so Shine a Light isn't in the film at all? i know - or think i know! - they performed it at the first Beacon show, not the second, but if it's not in the film at all ... well, that's interesting!

Sadly, Shine a Light is played at the end as the credits begin to roll. No footage of them playing the song. There is a still photo of the band with Ahmet Ertegun at the end dedicating the film to him. It is very moving.
ah so - thanks CousinLou. the other Beacon (1 & 2) numbers that don't seem to have made the cut are I'm Free, Undercover, Little T&A, Paint It Black and Honky Tonk Women - but i reckon we can still hope they'll turn up on the dvd as bonus tracks along with an unscathed Connection, which i am lighting the Incense of Please Please Please for :E

sssoul: sorry about "Connection."
Beyond that, I really like Martin Scorsese's work, including The Last Waltz, and I'm looking forward to this one.
However, I'm a bit concerned about this "jumping around with the camera." I do not like all that quick cutting to different close-ups. I'd like to see the core band (or at least most of it) at once for some percentage of the time. Just an opinion...
COUSINLOU I just want you to know that you made my day. Last night I was showing the HD trailer to a couple of friends and they were flipping out. Today I log on and you've posted numerous details including a setlist of the film. YOUR ROCK my friend, and I'm thrilled for your experience last night.
MLC, dude get over it... This is a concert from 2006, Taylor has no leads in it.
Your posts are all over Youtube and other web sites bashing the Stones. If you are trying to get people to appreciate Taylor's work you are doing a horrible job and actually having an adverse effect on people like me who like Taylor but am sick of hearing the same things about him being everything to the Stones.
Sorry, had to get that out... Lou, great news about the movie. Can't wait for it to be released.
