What a great band, its time for a big Phil revival.
Pull out Nightlife or Chinatown or any of their lesser known albums and surprise yourself, they still sound amazing.

All I have is Jailbreak which I bought on cassette when I was 15 but I still dig it out and play it from time to time. Also have a few boots. I really love just about everything I have heard but I just haven't really had the opportunity to go digging deep.

Dan, what I can trecommend ya is to get the Vagabonds Kings Warriors Angels
that came some 4-5 years ago. Start diggin' from there.

My fave:

Nightlife 1974 ("Shaft"-ish, funky, soulish)

A very questionable version of this band may actually still be touring. I caught them in a VERY small club in 2001. No original members and only one guy that played on Jailbreak, plus one other guy who was briefly a member near the very end, in '82 or '83.

Long Live Lizzy!

With a name based upon the cartoon strip "Tin Lizzie", Phil & the boys made some sterling albums!

After the first three albums, I think their finest run was the 1-2-3-4-5 knockout punches of classic albums from '75 - '79. And they are: Fighting / Jailbreak / Johnny The Fox / Bad Repuation / Black Rose

Outside of those 5 classics -- 'Renegade'('80),'Chinatown'('81) & 'Thunder & Lightning'('83) saw the quality dip a wee bit, but they still have some strong songs. 'NightLife' from '74 is another favourite, as a poster above mentioned, 'Shaft'-funk and soul, a different sound than the usual rock'n'roll for Lizzy but a damn fine album nonetheless.

<Listnin sample of Downtown Sundown>

That is a fantastic tune. So is Dancin' In The Moonlight, Bad Reputation, Opium Trail and several others. great album. In fact, it was the first album I bought of Lizzy. Jailbreak is not so good IMO. I'm divin' into 5 or 6 other albums these days...

I agree Bad Reputation is the best album.
But all between Nightlife and Black Rose are top class, and every Lizzy album is worth hearing.
And Live and Dangerous is one of the best live records ever made. I think Mojo readers (or some magazine) even voted it number one of all time.

Brilliant, brilliant band. Tailed off at the end though. Their last two albums, although not without their highlights, followed Iron Maiden where once they'd led.

Phil Lynott was my hero.
