I have just returned to my hotel, and here are my comments on tonight's show:

1. Tuesday was great, but tonight was just incendiary!! A classic show.

2. Ronnie ruled the night. I have given Ronnie a hard time, but man, he was spectacular. He and Chuck (yes, Chuck!!) were on another plane tonight on Shine a Light. When they finished, I just looked around me in Section A1, and people just had stunned looks on their faces -- it was THAT good. Slide was terrific throughout; no lazy solos.

3. Keith was also on; he hit all of his intros, and his solos were as good as can be expected, given his arthritis. He and Ronnie were trading sly looks - they know when they are playing well. Keith's Rambler intro was right on the money. Even the warhorses on the B-Stage were wonderful when Keith and Ronnie are having such a great time.

4. Crowd was much better than Tuesday, reflecting a much hotter performance. After all of the reports of the show not being sold out, thousands of empty seats, etc., I looked around carefully during the performance. There were a few empty seats scattered throughout the Arena, but I would estimate a couple hundred, no more. And those might have been no-shows. I would say that it was a sell-out. Were people able to get seats from the box office? I doubt it.

5. My seats were about 5 feet from my seats on Tuesday, and the sound was much better tonight. Clearly, they did something with the sound, as the guitars rang clear, at least from where I was standing.

6. Even though it was a great show, I would probably not buy a boot because Mick was a little off his game. Showmanship and crowd contact was A+, but he was a little "pitchy" at times, going a little sharp on Sympathy and on Brown Sugar. I probably would not have noticed if I hadn't seen so many shows -- most of the audience seemed unaware. The only blemish on an otherwise smoking show.

7. I should probably add that security was still tough on people. One guy tried to make his way to the front of the B-Stage, and got physically hauled out of the Arena!! The catwalk rail on Ronnie's side was kept clear until JJF.

8. Both Keith and Ronnie lit up, but only for a couple of seconds. They were clearly aware of the smoking ban and were observing it; just lighting up quickly for the benefit of the audience.

9. The Stones are on a roll -- If you can make it on the 26th, GO!!!

Awesome, awesome show. The band are truly on fire - when you see them play as well as they did tonight, you realise there is no possible way they can stop now, they are just playing too well. Keith was so on tonight it was scary. Ronnie played brilliantly as he has been doing since mid-last year. Sound was better than Tuesday, crowd was better, and the band was, unbelievably, better. Roll on Sunday!!!

Just great to hear to you had a great night and the band was doing their best :-)
Also glad to hear to the arena was full, there's been all these reports about empty seats etc.
Hope they'll be just as great this sunday...unfortunately I'm not able to go, what a pity, would have loved to :-)

I've just read this entire thread having just got back from the gig. Yes, I can see that apart from Shine A Light it may look like a normal setlist, no surprises but my God, it felt like something very special when you were there. I don't think I have ever experienced such an intensity at a concert. It was absolutely electrifying! Every member was in a great mood, all patting each other on the back, laughing and generally spurring each other on. Charlie just wouldn't stop his drum solo, Keith just stood there laughing. Ronnie was introduced as Marlboro Man, Keith lit up again and played it for laughs. But all joking aside they played with a real ferocity, every song. Shine A Light was very nicely done but the standout for me had to be Midnight Rambler. WHAT a version - long as it was I didn't want it to ever end.

Once again, all four were in great form but if Ronnie stole the show for me on Tuesday it had to be Mick tonight with Keith coming up a close second. The sheer energy of Mick tonight was astonishing.

Oh, btw, they put the house lights on a few times when they were on the B stage and I took a look round from a very good vantage point, (I was on the floor), and I can assure one and all that it was packed. Very good crowd too; I didn't think Tuesday's was as bad as some thought but definitely much livelier tonight.

Tonight was phenomenal, the Stones were on it, the audience were on it it was 10 times Tuesday's show. Which isn't to say Tuesday was a bad show but tonight was just whoa. I enjoyed walking back to the station and hearing people raving about different parts of the show. I only really remember Keith lighting up and saying "lets get busted", then chucking it away saying it was only cotton. The rest is a long and happy blur. I think the only thing I could possibly say was a let down was Keith did the same two songs and to be honest, I could have done without I Go Crazy a second time. But they a minor quibbles, amazing night

Just got in.

Fantastic show. Mick remarked that his family and Charlie's family were in the audience tonight and the band were really cooking - both guitars on form, everybody clearly enjoying themselves. Ronnie just keeps getting better and better.

Those "restricted view" seats in Block 112 are nothing of the kind - great view of the band from Keith's side and great sound too. If any more come up on Ticketmaster, snap 'em up.

O2 indisputably sold out - there were a few empties visible on Tuesday but none that I could see tonight.

SOMEBODY had a palm tree down by the B-stage....

Keith came out to do Paint It Black and something went wrong with the intro - he stopped, gave us all an "oops, sorry folks" grin and got it right at the second attempt. Otherwise he was prowling around the stage producing some glorious noises, with a big smile on his face.

When Keith was introduced, he waited for the uproar to die down and then said "Oh well, might as well get busted..." and lit up, took one drag and blew out a cloud of smoke. Huge cheer. THEN he said "It's only cotton-wool! AWAY with this sh*t!", chucked the "cigarette" across the stage and got on with YGTS! If he was telling the truth, the lawyers will be arguing about whether or not he has broken the smoking ban until hell freezes over.

I'm away for the weekend so I can't be at Sunday's show and I'll be out of Internet contact for a few days. Looking forward to reading the reviews when I get back.

Just got back to sunny southampton...

First things first, I went down to the Pilot Pub. Loads of Stones fans although I only saw one IORR shirt. That belonged to a guy named Martin (hello) and his missus. Also met up with a couple of Irish lads who's names escape me at this time in the morning (hello too).

The obvious thing to mention at this moment is that my ears are ringing. This is the first time my ears have been ringing after a stones show, ever. They were LOUD. The guitars were very loud. The piano, backing vocals and horns were very QUIET.

The next obvious thing to mention is that the band were really on fire tonight - possibly my best ever show. I don't think one single song was a dud - well, with the possible exception of Miss You which was OK but just didn't have the fire of the other songs.

The next thing to mention is Shine a Light. This is the first time for me hearing this song live and it was just brilliant! Words can't say how good it was. I just closed my eyes and went with the groove, much to the amusement of the girl steward next to me in the runway.

Most of the stewards were OK but there was one lady (black girl with short grey hair) who was like the gestapo. I was up and dancing and she kept telling me to sit in my seat. I told her to f*ck off because it's rock n roll, not a crappy pop concert. I think she got the message.

I managed to get right up to the B stage for the B set and I've never been tat close before. The O2 is really quite an intimate venue and the floor is very small. Managed to catch Ronnie, Chuck and Darryl's eye but Keith and Mick didn't come by my bit too much.

Ronnie realy made the night tonight, but Keith was really excellent too. The best I've seen him for quite a while - possbly since BTB tour!

And I can't let my comments pass without mentioning Midnight Rambler. I've seen this several times but tonight it just seemed better than ever before.

By the way, I almost forgot. Jet were a brilliant opening act. I managed to get right down the front for them and they really rocked. They are the best opening act I have ever seen for the stones - and I've seen some good ones. The singer jumped down into the audience right next to me and was posing by standing on the chair and doing some Pete Townsend style rock power chord strums. It was only a shame that the hall was mostly empty for them because if people would actually take the time to watch them they would realise how great they actually are. Still, that's their loss, not mine.

And may I mention that when I looked around I didn't really see any empty seats. There must have been a few because some people did get upgrades, but those must have been right out in the nosebleeds because I couldn't make out a single empty seat once the show started, and I looked around a few times.

Keith was funny - he lit up a cigarette and everyone was laughing and applauding. He then said "it's only cotton wool - I hate that stuff" and chucked it away laughing. That was a great and very funny moment (you had to be there!).

All down the line , Let's spend the night together and HTW are worth a mention too as stand out songs for me. Sympathy was good but it works better in a stadium.

You two are complete idiots, if you don't mind me saying so. The stones just put up one of the best shows I have ever seen, and you think you can criticize them when you weren't even there? If you'd been there to see Shine a Light / Midnight Rambler back to back - and two smoking version at that, you would not be saying these silly things. I only pray that one day you will realise that it is about the performance, not some list of song titles.

Back at my hotel as well, just north of Hyde Park. What a show. This must be one of the better ones I have ever seen. The band was really tight tonight. All intros that usually are done somewhat sloopy was nailed. Especially Paint It Black, that one was the highlight on the show for me.
Ronnie was absolutely fantastic tonight and Keith was in there as well.
Lots of discussions has been around lately regarding the "Is this the last time or not" Well, my comment to thet would be that there is absolutely no reason what so ever to call it a day at this point of their journey through the rock history. What they did tonight was just simply prooving that they still are the world champions in Rock. No more, no less. An absolutely amazing gig. Keep on rockin.
