Keith had a new custom painted guitar in Copenhagen. He used it on Dead Flowers and Miss You. It is a Fender Telecaster custom painted, as you see from the picture below. Keith is playing Miss You on the B-stage.

Ronne did also have a custom painted guitar in Copenhagen. Fender Stratocaster on Rocks Off.

Last of the great reviews from Danish newspapers. This one from INFORMATION, Tuesday August 7th. Written by Klaus Lynggaard. ( : courtesy of a subscriber to this paper, who believes this must be known the whole world ). Copied from archive at information.dk

Liv i de gamle klude

The Rolling Stones leverede søndag et veloplagt og dynamisk show, der hamrede gruppens position som et af klodens bedste bands fast med tommetykke søm

Der er en flok kunstnere derude, som denne korrespondent efterhånden har oplevet så mange gange til koncert, at det nærmest er latterligt. Antallet fortaber sig i tågerne og kan sikkert tolkes som både tryghedsnarkomani og fantasiløshed, og på det punkt skal De endelig ikke holde dem tilbage, kære læser.

I selvforståelsens milde skær opfattes det dog som lige dele taknemmelighed og trofasthed grundet den store mængde kvalitetsoplevelser (som det hedder på følelsesøkonomisk nysprog), denne udvalgte skare har skænket undertegnede på plade og scene - og så en god portion nysgerrighed med hensyn til hvad de mon nu har fundet på denne gang.

Denne særlige skare tæller (eller talte) folk som Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, C.V. Jørgensen, Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Van Morrison, Marianne Faithfull, John Cale, Love Shop, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Sonic Youth, Elvis Costello, Iggy Pop, Sort Sol, Lou Reed og - nå ja - så de hersens Rolling Stones.

Det kan jo gå op og ned, den slags. Knapt så ekstremt hos de fleste som f.eks. med mr. Dylan, der tilsyneladende sætter en ære i aldrig at leve op til nogen af mennesket kendte forventninger - eller helt så konsistent som Patti Smith, der simpelthen aldrig skuffer, men op og ned går det nu engang med ens ledestjerner.

Den gode nyhed og helt store optur på denne velsignede solskinsdag er så, at Rolling Stones i Parken søndag aften var så gode, at det sang i gebisset, hvinede i hypofysen og rislede i centralnervesystemet, så det var en fryd. Hallelujah, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, det var den fineste koncert med disse bedagede herrer denne signatur har oplevet siden Forum i det herrens år 1970; og med hensyn til lige den koncert bør det understreges, at vi (dvs. jeg) var så pumpet op af såvel illegale som legale substanser, at det muligvis i en vis grad påvirkede bedømmelsesevnen .

Stil og originalitet
I Parken stod den på kildevand og tobak i rigelige mængder, thi sådan holdes hovedet klart og hjertet varmt. Der var fra de første umiskendelige akkorder i "Start Me Up" blev slået an kl. 21:38 ingen tvivl om, at det tekniske var i top, thi balancen instrumenterne imellem fremstod perfekt med Mick Jaggers karakteristiske vokal lå højt og tydeligt i mikset. Når det betænkes, hvor mange akustiske katastrofer Parken efterhånden har lagt navn til, er det forbundet med en næsten skadefro kildrende fornemmelse at konstatere, at det altså kan lade sig gøre. Det er og bliver alfa og omega for en koncertoplevelse, thi vi er efterhånden kollektivt så auditivt forkælede, at selv den mest hårdføre ikke kan andet end græmme sig, når lyden i PA'et minder om en elefantfloks dødsskrig, filtreret gennem et ton jordslåede håndklæder.

Det skadede så heller ikke sagen, at de fire herrer samt hjælpemusikere - korsangere, pianist og blæsere - spillede som om de havde den onde selv i hælene. Der hvilede en ganske særlig majestæt iblandet såvel nerve som nosser over foretagendet, der ganske blæste enhver forestilling om en trist lille spadseretur gennem rockmuseet durk ud af vinduet. De så alle ud til at både mene og nyde det på en facon, der gjorde, at i hvert fald denne tilhører smed reservationerne og bare lænede sig tilbage (så godt som det nu var muligt i det ubehagelige plasticsæde, han havde fået stillet til rådighed formedelst 1.500 bob!) og gav sig hen.

Jagger ikke blot holder sig fantastisk, han er og bliver den fødte showmand og fremstår til stadighed som et skoleeksempel på rockens naturlige anlæg for at vende begrænsninger til en styrke; der var sikkert ikke én af de medbragte korsangere, som ikke teknisk set kunne synge røven ud af bukserne på Jagger, men hvad så med karakter, stil og originalitet? Det ejer han alt sammen til overmål. Karakter kan man satenedeme heller ikke frakende de to guitarister Keith Richards og Ron Wood - førstnævnte er nærmest blevet en helt genre i sig selv i kraft af en fuldstændig unik tilgang til rytmeguitaren - hvis spil væver sig sammen, så det er umuligt at høre, hvor den ene begynder, og den anden holder op.

Gruppens hemmelige våben var som altid trommeslager Charlie Watts, hvis Buster Keaton-agtige udstråling ikke kan skjule, at hans sejt fremaddrivende lilletrommeslag sidder lige i solar plexus. Hver gang! Den samlede erfaringsmasse på scenen den aften beviste således overlegent og ubesværet, at nogle af os bare bliver bedre med årene.

Gungrende og gribende
Betænkes det, at Stones havde sit kunstneriske mest prægnante album i årevis med i bagagen og det tilmed har lagt navn til den igangværende A Bigger Bang Tour, blev vi ikke ligefrem forkælet med materiale derfra. Tværtimod blev det kun til åbningsskæringen "Rough Justice", ellers stod den mestendels på det, der i min ungdom adviseredes som Gyldne Favoritter, krydret med præcis overraskelser nok til, at det ikke sandede til i forudsigelighed; smuk var Keith Richards fortolkning af "You Got The Silver" med Ron Wood på indfølt slide, på samme måde som både "Ruby Tuesday" og countryklassikeren "Dead Flowers" sad lige i hjertekulen. Koncertens højdepunkt udgjordes af en forrykt swingende "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'", hvor tenorsaxofonisten Bobby Keys leverede en solo af de sjældne, fulgt til dørs af såvel Woods soloindsats som Jaggers sjælfulde mundharpespil. Den der særlige polyfoniske teknik, Stones lærte sig fra Chicago bluesens mestre, foldede sig fuldt ud på klassikere som "It's Only Rock'n'Roll", "Honky Tonk Women" og især den klimatiske "Jumpin' Jack Flash", som jeg sandt for dyden aldrig har hørt en bedre udgave af.

Måske var det mest fantastiske ved al denne hurlumhej, at gruppen meget vel kunne have stillet op med et radikalt anderledes sæt, bestående af 19 andre sange end dem, de så fornemt diverterede med på denne pragtaften under åben himmel - og have leveret en mindst lige så gyngende, gungrende og gribende omgang primal rock & roll; thi bagkataloget er ikke blot enormt, men også sprængfyldt med fuldfede riffs, mindeværdige arrangementer og de der flabet intelligente tekster, Jagger ikke altid får kredit nok for. Der blev losset mås, sat fut i fejemøget og liv i de gamle klude på en facon, så det er svært at få armene ned. Hvilket selvfølgelig har besværliggjort skrivningen af denne artikel, men hvad gør man ikke for vor lille avis' højt begavede læserskare? Se, det kalder jeg et godt spørgsmål!

There have been lots of comparisons between the Gothenburg and the Copenhagen shows. I (like many others of you out there) visited them both and have to say they put on two terrific concerts.

Mick is fantastic as always. Maybe he was working (even) harder in Gothenburg than in Copenhagen.
Charlie is always Charlie. He’s not the spectacular guy but you can’t blame him for anything, can you?
Ronnie surprised (at least me) a bit by his concentrated and blistering work at both shows. No posing at all, just playing guitar, and he did it excellent.
Keith didn’t look that focused in Gothenburg than in Copenhagen. In Copenhagen he was almost flawless; in Gothenburg he seemed to stop playing here and there in some songs. King in Copenhagen, Good in Gothenburg.

Personal opinions, I’m not a musician but I’ve seen them every European tour since 1973 and I enjoyed it this time as much as ever before.

In Copenhagen I was standing just beside the B-stage which was a fascinating experience. There you could see how much they cooperate just with eye contact. Even if the sound beside the B-stage was terrible you understand how hard it must be to play the B-stage when you hear the sound from the big stage with some “delay”.
As I saw it there were stationary monitors at the B-stage platform, are there monitors even at the mobile B-stage that are rolling?

A good portion of the review (will fill in here later)

endless amounts of refreshments and tobacco, cos that¦s how the mind is kept clear and the heart warm. From the first chopped on (the unmistakeable) chords of SMU at 21.38, there were no doubt that the techniques were polished perfectly, fore the balance between the instruments sounded presiously and Jagger's characteristic vocals rested clearly and audible in the mix. Considering all the acoustic distasters the Parken eventually has been notorious for, one almost finds a malicious pleasure in stating it is possible to deal with. It is and remains alfa and omega for a concert experience, because we are collectively so audiotively infected, so that noone but the tiger-hearted could nothing but grief when the PA remind you of a elephant herds death war, filtered through a ton of muddy rags.

It didn't either hurt the Sake, that the four gentlemen plus supportive musicians - choir, pianist and brass section - were playing like they had the Grim One breathing them in their necks. A certain majestyness flew over the achievement, which blew any notion off about small walks through the rock museum, tight out off the window it blew. They all seemes to mean and enjoy it in a way, that at least these part-taker unstrapped the reservations and just layed back (as well as it was possible to do in the plastic seat he could dispose for the neat sum of 1500 DKR) and tuned in...

well bv, there's a story it's not a new guitar but he just got a body that was set up before the show. Are you sure about Dead Flowers? I would say I'll go crazy...but anyway there's another thread for it.

Ronnie had a green one as mentioned before on Rocks Off, but I also thought this is a new one [snakefan.dk] but it's probably not, I just didn't notice it before. Can anyone tell me what is it, thank you and sorry for my ignorance if it's something too obvious.

i think it is a new one - maybe both Keith and Ronnie got gifts?

oh wait - you don't mean the green one, do you - i'm not sure which one you do mean,
but i'm guessing maybe the silvery sort-of-Tele-shaped Zemaitis? Ronnie started using that one in 06.
