Thanks Bjornulf for all the nice words about our city and people!

As for the lame public in the first rows - what would you people expect at the country where 1% of citizens own 99% of capital? I'm a teacher and my husband's a builder and we have a child to feed and dress and educate, so the 2 tickets to the fan-zone (the destination place of the B-stage) ~100 euros each were a real huge stretch for us. Certainly we would be up and screaming in the places for 500 euros if we ever could dream to afford this. Ironically most of the people who can don't know a bloody bit about music at all, not to mention any song of the Stones beside You-Know-Which, so blame the greedy promoters who've known of course that these money-bags would buy the tickets just for the prestigiousness of the event.

As for the soldier cap, I can explain: There was the Day of the Russian Navy Forces the following Sunday, a big holiday in our country and particularly in St.Petersburg as it is a seaport, and the cap is a sailor's cap. I think it looked absolutely great on Ronnie, he could be one of those sailors who took over the Winter Palace in 1917 (speaking of SFD)

As for the toilets, we knew that we wouldn't be able to use them because we had to guard our places in the fan-zone, so we hadn't drunk or eaten since noon that day - it's just as simple as that winking smiley

There was a fan from London named Stephen standing next to me who reportedly attended some 400 shows of the group, and my first reaction was to envy him, but then I thought it was him who should've been envious, because it was just yet another show of the Stones for him, and for us (me and my husband) it was a unique once-in-a-lifetime experience you guys might never appreciate but just believe me, it was absolute magic.

OK, I'm off the soap-box now, sorry for ranting. As a compensation, here's a link to a pretty professional set of photographs [lospopadosos.com] - a person who took them says he smuggled in the parts of his camera hidden in his bag and pockets and then assembled them on the spot and then hardly saved the camera from security, so it was quite a heroic act. smiling smiley

Tamba, thank you VERY much for your insights.

And also for the photo link. Fascinating to see The Boys in daylight!

I wanted so much to be in St. Petersburg so I appreciate your thoughts all the more.

Thanks for your review, Tamba - that problem with certain sections of the crowd isnt just confined to St Petersburg.

Glad that you got to see the Stones in your beautiful city.

Thank you Tamba.
By the videos the show seems very good : Sympathy is shorter and Keith takes the solo on HTW right in time.
The video with the black girl during BS is back, i didn't see it in Budva?!

A very touching post, thank you. It makes for wonderful reading.

Thank you all for understanding! Probably I need to elaborate though on the point of contraposition of a devoted fan who's following the group for years and has seen a number of shows and an average person who just wasn't brave enough to become a devoted fan - and now it's too late.

During the show I had only one burning thought: I should absorb every second of this with all of my senses, because it shall never happen to me again, and it was this realization that made me the happiest and the saddest person at that square... Hmm, looks like the idea of elaboration didn't work, it gets even more confusing smiling smiley
Nevermind, I then tell you the thing you are already aware of: that no photo, no super-puper DVD-quality video could ever reproduce the warmth and kindness and humaneness of Keith's smile. I was ready for everything but this. This is my brightest impression from the show.

Yes. So true. The photos and the videos from this show will never show the emotions and the great felings you were sensing at this show. I enjoyed every single second because it was possible to look around a times and see everybody enjoying it, everybody smiling, being so happy, and at the same time the band performed such a great show, song by song, and I was lucky to leave my space and get to the rail right up by the B-stage and feel the excitement there as well. And when I left the B-stage as they performed Honky Tonk, and came back to my seat, everybody, I mean everybody was standing on their chairs and watching the B-stage from wherever they were. And at the end, when I felt I should challenge the security a bit, I went for the front side to watch Mick and Keith coming to the wing, and security did actually let people come close to make pictures or just to watch their favorites as close as ever possible for a few seconds. I am afraid of going to more shows because I think may be after another few shows I might forget the St Petersburg show and it will be just one of many. But no way. I think it will shine even after the tour is over. Thank you to the fans in St Petersburg and thank you to the Stones for a great memory to keep forever.

Thanks Tamba for a terrific read
I've always been very taken by your city - from literature - I'd guess the Rolling Stones were impressed simply by being there, too

Thye size of the paying crowd was around 40,000. Then in front of this picture you don't see the road and park with the fence and the people who watch the show for free. I have adjusted the listed (paying) crowd size to 40,000 which is listed by the press. My original higher estimates was corrected in a post an hour or so later, as I watched the pictures, but many people copy from IORR and do not adjust accordingly. PS. I did also adjust Belgrade figure to 70,000 because that seems to be more correct based on info.

Thanks tamba, so nice to read and should make us appreciate the stones when we go to see them.

I was hoping to go to st petersburg, but unfortunately for me no direct flights but it is one of my 'must see cities' to go to.

Re: St Petersburg setlist and reports

There are different ways of being entusiastic.
Some say the Russian crowd looks bored and not
entusiastic as they watch pictures. Well again
as I have said before pictures are fine but reading
about a meal or seing a picture of it is not the same
as having it. I have been to many many Stones shows,
and you don't need to be an absolute freak jumping
up and down on everybody's feet to be enjoying it.
The crowd in St Petersburg was great because they did
pay attention, they stayed focused and were singing
along on the entire versions of Can't Always Get and
Rambler, they followed every oooh and yeahhh Mick
shouted out during Rambler, and the B-stage was hot.
May be there were sections with people sitting down,
and may be some tourist fans flying in felt the
crowd was lame, but I don't agree.
