well yeah but the difference is that the stones only use the playback for the bongos on sympathy
u2's half show is playback and played by puters

Thanks for the review, Bong
Who can blame the guitarists for not being 100% ? It's just one week since Ronnie's birthday party, they're probably closer to 96% at this time.

I completely agree with Mack Jigger: it was sad to see Keith play last night. Just saw the clip from "Happy" on youutube again. He really did not know what he was doing sometimes.
Keith, I am worried about you ...

8 songs - and then it's "all over now" - because nothing but war horses. Too bad

oh yes and those warhorses are simply the worst songs in the universe ! a true pain the arse to listen to them again and again. After all that's why they call them warhorses !

my observation after reading this board for some time: there are many who are spoiled by too many bootlegs in their collection, sometimes crappy sounding ones plus even if internet is a great thing how the f*** someone can judge the show not literally being there? By setlists? gimme a break.

this time it is absolutely awful what some people do. Sometimes I get impression if this board is visited by people not into the Stones, they could get an impression this is I hate the RS board or something.

see you in few years when you'll be crying on public forums that there is no more Stones to enjoy. A true fans. GImme a break.

Sparks72, i share your indignation. "All time" moaning becomes so tiresome and insufferable anymore. And as for setlists (atleast) it is groundless. The Stones are performing many different songs in relation to european leg of 2006, they offered six different sogns in the first two gigs and some guys are complaining because ...Because what? Because the band still plays Jumping Jack Flash! Unbelievable...

Hmmmm, I am not so sure that still playing Jumping Jack Flash is the reason. I am no psychologist, but from my own experiences with other Stones fans I feel that there is a deeper reason for this increasing complaining and whining. Look, the Stones are a band that

- does not release a couple of singles a year anymore
- does not release a new album every year or so anymore
- does not release any archive material
- demonstrate at best only little care and real involvement in recent releases like Rarities or Live Licks

Add to this the ever-increasing prices for tickets, merchandise and the increasing number of sub-par performances, then it becomes clear why so many long-term fans tend to be increasingly frustrated. I know quite a few long-term fans who quit following the Stones. Of course, they did not quit being fans, but they show little to no interest in their current activities. In fact, they become increasingly sarcastic when talking about the bands current state. Growing frustration amongs fans is, at least as I see it, the main factor for people being increasingly negative and critical. I mean, in 1995 I heard no complaints about the quite desastrous gig in Luxembourg. In fact, people actually thought it was quite funny to hear missed intros, missed lyrics, missed chord changes. At that time, it was great to hear that even our heroes could fail! But at that time in 1995, we had Steel Wheels, Main Offender, Wandering Sprit and Voodoo Lounge - f o u r strong albums from the band and band members, packed with great tunes, in just f i v e years - and two nearly flawless world tours in 1989/90 and 1994/1995 which were proof enough that the Stones and its key members were still relevant creative forces.

Times have changed, and the fact that too many things went into the wrong direction in recent years is the main reason for the growing frustration amongst fans. An old friend of mine, a regular Stones concert goer since 1973, does not go to see them anymore. He told me: "Today, they are as musically relevant as a karaoke show, and it hurts". He does not raise his voice here on this board, just like some other fellow Stones fans who do not voice their opinion here. They simply don't go anymore, but they're still fans - who focus on the bands great past by listening to their great records, tapes, boots, and watching old videos from their glorious past.

And you know what? For me, the recent discovery of Key To The Highway from the 1964 Chess sessions was considerably more exciting than listening to this computerized keyboard-heavy Sympathy For The Devil version at recent shows.

Heh. Your friend is wrong there mate. My group of friends (From where I live) still love going to shows and find that their recent releases are very good. It's true that you can argue what artistic relevance Rarities or Live Licks had, but I really think they're good. There isn't really any artistic relevance in them, but I judge it from what comes out of my speakers, and that's all good to me.
You list the things you had in 1995. Well did you ever take the time to listing what we have now? There's tons of things. If you count solo stuff there's a release or a tour in some form every year since 1993.

For example I don't watch Ladies & Gentlemen much. It's indeed a great show. Same goes for the 1975 LA Forum gig. There's tons of great things from the past out there. I just don't pay much attention to it. There's no need. I'd rather go to a real show than farting around, watching some old show from a million years ago. I'm not degrading the concerts from the past, but right now there's no need for them. I'll frickin' reminisce when I get old.

>> They simply don't go anymore, but they're still fans - who focus on the bands great past

well, that i can relate to - i happen to be one of the fortunate ones who gets into every era,
including the current one, but i do understand people focussing on what they love.
i wish more people would do more of that - whether what they love is current or from 40 years ago.
that's what it's for.

what gets hard to take is the obsessive harping/brooding some people do on what they don't like -
and the unfortunate notion that being ultra-finicky makes one "discerning" or "sophisticated" or something,
when it might simply mean one has become crabby and querulous. and there's nothin rock & roll about that.

whatever else you do/don't do ... don't neglect what grooves you

I don't think so. Just because I think there is no "right" or "wrong" in this case. There is no objective truth. It's all opinions. As such, they are subjective and depend on your very own history and experiences as Stones fans.

All I have said is that amongst long-term 'veteran' fans there's a tendency to become increasingly frustrated with the band. You are a younger fan who has not experienced the Stones in the 60's, 70's or 80's so your history with them is a bit different and that may be the reason why you don't feel the need to watch or listen to old stuff from a time when you were not experiencing the band. Nothing wrong with that, absolutely nothing. If you still enjoy the current band, you still enjoy them. If you don't, you simply don't. But in the same way as you are entitled to explain your positive opinion about the current band it must be allowed for others to explain their frustration with band without being labelled as "whiners and complainers".

And there's no need to start a new discussion about Live Licks and Rarities. You judge them from what is coming out of your speakers, and of course, those records have their moments. Let's not talk about lacklustre performances of some warhorses and strange edits like Rocks Off on Live Licks or the absence of Think I'm Going Mad, So Young, The Storm and some more 'real' rarities and the inclusion of Wild Horses and Mannish Boy and other 'non rarities' on 'Rarities'. It's all been said and done, and an opinion is an opinion and as such not right or wrong.

> Well did you ever take the time to listing what we have now? There's tons of things.

Tons of things? Compared to five year span (1989-1994: two band albums plus one Jagger solo and one Keith solo album) I mentioned in my previous post, what do we have now in the same time span? One band album (the first in eight years!), one Jagger solo. In terms of 'new material', to be precise.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE REVIEWS/REPORTS PAGES FOR GENERAL DISCUSSIONS!

If you hate the Stones, if you think their shows are boring, if you don't like Mick's hair or the weather, then please do not waste our time on the REVIEWS pages. Please use separate threads for that - for the frustrations, I don't like the warhorses and all of that.

Please help in keeping the threads on topic. Which means what you are talking about is related to the TOPIC - to the SUBJECT/HEADLINE of the thread. Thanks!

He @#$%& up the start, yeah. And he looks old.
But after a while he remembers again and the version is not a bad one smiling smiley
He mainly played the riff, then skipped a beat and waited to find his way in again. I hate to see him like that...but it's one song out of 19 and on only the first couple of seconds. At this stage, I already consider it an honour to experience them again. What I'm hoping for is seing my idols on stage, perhaps the last time. All I hope for is that they don't @#$%& up so much that the usual fans will notice it

this is a classicly Bushian tactic: disagree with the point of view, so you attack the persons behind them.

excuse me, but in my review i simply reported what i saw: some seriously subpar guitar playing. but, i'll say it again: i still had a great @#$%& time, and can't wait for paris!
