Re: Lynyrd Skynyrd Blew The Stones Away?

Yes. And I've seen Greg Allman solo too. And Derek Trucks too for that matter. But calling it the "Allman Brothers" when one of it's very influential founding members is no longer with them just seems a little false.
For those who haven't had the chance to experience the Allman Brothers, by all means, check them out, they're still a great band. It's just that once you've seen them as an even greater band, the current line-up is, at least to me, a slight letdown.
Let's call it what it is, Greg Allman & Friends, drop the ticket price a little, play smaller venues, and I'm in. But don't keep playing "Ramblin' Man" and "Blue Sky" in radio advertisments for Allman Brothers shows anymore, that's just false advertising.
Just my opinion...not trying to put down anyone that still enjoys them, as I still like listening to the records myself.
I guess to me a band is most recognizable by it's singer(s) and guitarist(s). Having lost one of it's singers, and both of it's guitarists, just isn't the same band. Are they still a good band? Sure! And some may like the new style better. I'm just saying for me, I prefer the old classic style.
Much in the same way, I wouldn't go see "The Rolling Stones" with only Mick and Charlie remaining, but I would go to a Richards solo show.
Who knows, maybe I'll give them another shot someday...just that seeing the "before" many times, and the "after" once...the "after" just didn't do it for me.
