Funny as Hell: I am listening to the Apple reissue of that album.
I love Billy's Apple material - both That's The Way and Encouraging Words. The A & M stuff is good, but nowhere near as great as the Apple stuff.
Do you know the song The First Time Ever I saw Your Face ? Well, Ewan Maccall wrote it as a consequence of Peggy Seeger continually orally obliging him.

kirk is one of my all-time faves. lotsa material about him included in that keystone korner book that came out recently.

I have just moved on to Guy Clark, and will be digging out Talk Is Cheap after that. I'd recommend The Delivery Man, as it's Costello's best ever.
there will be no delivery, man. elvis lost his golden touch after about 1986. his aim was very true up until then, though....

The only thing wrong with the original "I Can See For Miles" was that you couldn't hear the bass. Here, John gets his revenge. This is audio from a BBC broadcast where the band mimed to the studio version .... except for John. His bass was LIVE!
