Thanks for the kind words, folks. And thanks to Mathijs for the proper credit.

Here's another view of the guitar, also from the Vegas B-stage.

Well the old one was pretty beat so Ron may have decided to retire it. As to precise details...

Crap? No way! These guitars are handmade in Japan, using the best wood and electronics, and using Tony Zemaitis' original drawings. The engraving on the face plates is done by Danny O'Brian, Tony Zemaitis' original engravings. This guitar sells for $12.000. There's a cheaper model made by Greco/Zemaitis, and this one sells for $3500.

The differences between Wood's original Zemaitis and the Japanese Zemiatis is hard to pinpoint. Wood's original is a handmade instrument, made by one of the best luthiers in the world, and especially for one of his favourite rock star clients. The new Japanese Zemaitis guitars rank with the best guitars ever made. I guess it's impossible to compair. The main diference is the dressing of the guitars (the engravings, the head stock, the fret markings), and Wood's original has three Gibson PAF pickups while the new Zemaitis has special made Dimarzio pickups.

Wood's new Zemaitis ?

I have never seen this guitar before. It has the body shape of his Disc Zemaitis, a Zemaitis headstock, but only one humbucker on a silver plate:

Just want to say that the "new" Zemaitis that I referred to in another thread is his other "new" one. I have also not seen this one. It reminds me of his Slide Z, right Mathijs? The one with the circle in the middle.

Licensed production of Zemaitis designs [and cheaper Greco badged models] has started in the top notch Fuji Gen factory in Japan.
Whether any new Zemaitis type guitars which Ronnie has are similarly sourced is a different question I suppose.

We forgot one Zemaitis: Wood plays a Zemaitis on the Miss You video. It's hard to see, but it's a Zemaitis for sure.

Mathijs

thanks to Palace Revolution 2000 for re-raising this question (in this thread: [www.iorr.org])
and for pointing out that we don't have a photo of this instrument posted yet.
in the Miss You video, Ronnie seems to be trying to hide it, and this is the best screen capture i could manage:

if anyone could post a clear photo of it, that would be brilliant.
(i don't see it among the Barbarians' instruments, which are lined up on page four: [www.iorr.org])

From Rolling Stone Magazine November 1977.
Ronnie's guitar arsenal back then.
Guess the guitar in question is the one hanging on the wall 3rd from right.

many thanks for the photo! but the guitar Ronnie's using in the Miss You video
sure doesn't look like the pearl-front Zemaitis to me ... unless it's in its underwear in the video :E

whoa, wait - no need to delete the photo - it's an interesting one!
if you don't want to repost it, do you mind if i do?
and does the magazine note who the photographer was?

So here's the wrong pic again.
I scanned it from the RS Mag but don't have a name for the credit.

Well, after watching the vid I think here's a guitar that looks similiar to that what I can see in the vid. Tony Z had made this guitar for his son Tony jr.
Please note that I'm not saying this IS the same guitar. I just say that it looks similiar to me. The guitar in the video looks to have smaller pickups, but it's possible that the camera angle is fooling me.
This pic is from when it was for sale at Rumbleseatmusic Ithaca NY.

Hats off to Phil Good for a BEAUTIFUL piece of detective work. Not only do I have new photo to add to my collection of Keith/Ron/Stones/Barbs guitar arsenals. I had never seen that RS picture, but I think Phil might have found the one.
I agree that the PUs look a bit different. In the clear picture there's the double coiled exposed PUs; and in the video they look a bit smaller. I even thought some kind of soapbars at one point (but could be wrong). Then there is that diamond shaped emblem on the headstock, not too visible in video - but these could all be very well attributed to poor video quality.
regardless - thanks a BUNCH to Phil Good, and as always Lady Sssoul.
What does the Lady herself think? Is that the one?

wow - thanks for another fascinating photo, Phil Good!
yep, that does indeed look like a close relation of the one Ronnie's got in the video.
i hope Mathijs will stop by shortly to say whether it's close to the one he saw a clear photo of circa 1985.

Bill Carter and KR guitar
Bill Carter is an alumnus of Rector High School and was attorney for the Rolling Stones for several years. After the Stones were banned from the States, Bill negotiated a deal for them to tour every 3 years as long as he was with them.

According to Photobucket...

>> Bill Carter and KR guitar <<

... that's "KR guitar" as in "signed by KR", i guess - the one he signed for a charity auction?
there's a shot of him signing it somewhere on an earlier page in this thread

In case of interest here's the caption from Rolling Stone Magazine to the photo of Ronnie's guitar arsenal shown some posts above.
Please don't ask me about #14 ( ... neck from EC's original Layla Les Paul). ????????? I don't know what they were thinking.

Re: Keith's and Ron's Zemaitis Guitars

Phil - if there was any way to make the original post even better and more interesting, you have done it. The legend xplaining them all is awesome.
That is of course no Les Paul neck on the Strat. Not sure what he means...
Thank you very much.
These Ratbag Boogies should be put into a book!

"stolen from Malibu ... somethingsomething ...
"(replacement ... somethingsomething ... has been made)
"REWARD"

It's all good. I've heared or rather read that before - except RS magazine messed up the Les Paul neck which instead should read Stratocaster neck.

EC played a tobacco sunburst during the Derek & the Dominos time and later assembled the best parts of three mid-'50s Strats to create his favorite guitar, the famous "Blackie", a black composite Strat which he played for many years.

so Ronnie got that that Layla Strat neck given to him.
there are more of those parts replacement stories with Jeff Beck, I think.
