while we "wait for someone to come out of somewhere" and tell us what the hell is the deal with the Europe '06 tour, I was wondering if anyone had the answer to this:

Why did they not tour Europe to support Some Girls? Was it ever seriously discussed?

It stands to date (until possibly this tour - I know, bite yer tongue, Tod...) as the only tour since '69 where a European tour didn't follow the US leg. In some instances that tour didn't come for upwards of a year afterward...but, still...

Any good theories or knowledge on this burning question of the day?

as far as I know, the US tour was just organised at short notice to promote Some Girls. With Keith's future uncertain (his Toronto trial was in October) they went back into the studio and started stockpiling songs after the tour just in case he was going to go to jail.

I suppose they could have toured elsewhere in 1979, but it seems that they had so many songs they decided to go and record Emotional Rescue instead. If anything, it was more surprising that they didnt tour in 1980

One of those news reports did say he was up in the tree "to scavenge" c-nuts.

According to Ian McLagan they did organise a 1979 European tour in much the same way as the '78 US tour, but it would have been too expensive and they would loose money. Jagger lost interest in the end.
