Did you ever see the movie Ghostworld with Thora Birch and a young Scarlett Johansan? The Steve Buscemi character is sort of, kind of modeled on a Don Knotts kind of character. They reference Knotts throughout the movie and dedicate the film to him in the credits.
Great, quirky little movie...check it out,

yes..i like that movie (mostly Buscemi)...he plays a record collector.

I love that scene where the surly, slightly-goth art student, played by Thora Birch, hands in her assignment in front of the class. Its a portrait of Don Knotts ...and the artsy-fartsy teacher, puzzled, asks condescendingly, "What ....is this?"
The girl answers, "Don Knotts".
The teacher says, "Yes I know, but... why?
And the girl answers matter-of-factly, "I just like Don Knotts."
Hilarious.
