Misunderstood song lyrics
Posted by: Lukester ()
Date: February 8, 2006 17:04

I'd like to hear some funny (or not) lyrics that people think they hear. For example, when Some Girls came out a friend of mine, who was a cook in an Italian restaurant, thought Beast of Burden was, "I'll never be your pizza burning."

For non-Stones songs, I saw Garth and Wayne (as in Wayne's World) singing Purple Haze as, "'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy." Ha ha

Beast of Burden - I thought he was saying "crying laughter" when he says "throw it all at me". Hearing a live version straightened me out (on that anyway). Mick is so mush-mouthed that there are lots of good examples. Not sure I know the words to "Hand of Fate" yet!

...or CCR's Bad Moon Risin' instead of, "There's a Bad Moon on the rise," it's, "There's a bathroom on the right."

I friend of mine (we were in Jr. High School) thought the line in Brown Sugar, "just like a black girl should be," was "just like a pack of Sugar Babies." I guess he thought Mick had a fondness for those little chewy candies just as my friend did.

This is F***ing hilarious. Thanks stonesfan70.

I just checked out that site and there were 8 different Beast of Burden misunderstandings. My favorite was from a guy named Luke (no relation), who thought it was, "I'll never be obese, Roberta."

I'm adding this site to my favotites.

Lukester, on Fogerty's "premonition" live CD, he intentionally throws in the "bathroom" line.

Thanks Elmo. I am learning that these misunderstood lyrics are much more popular than I thought. That's cool that Fogerty would have a litle fun with it.

On that website mentioned above I read the "pizza burning" version that someone else submitted. And I thought my friend's version was unique.

By the way, I looked at that ticket stub for the Who show in Orlando we talked about a few days ago. It was Orlando, Tangerine Bowl, November 27, 1982.

I was on Thanksgiving holiday and my friend and I went to the Epcot Center (tripping on acid!!!!). Epcot Center had just opened that fall, I think, and we had time to kill. Sadly my friend, Jody, died unexpectedly the following February. I've got fond memories of that road trip.

Yeah, that was billed as the Who's farewell tour - I see that Rog and Pete are gearing up to tour again. Great show that day, by the Who anyway. Maybe the single best show they ever played. Everything I'd ever heard by them except "You Better". Great "Squeeze Box", "Won't Get Fooled", "My Generation" and "Eminence Front". Ox was on fire!

Yes, the Ox was on fire. I can still feel that thunderous bass. Wow. He was wearing a red suit too. I've got some photos from that show, but none of them are close ups.

My favorite is the Who's "Eminence Front" misinterpreted as "M&Ms for lunch." Duh.

Good one stonesfan70. I like your version better. Hell, I don't even know what an Emminence Front is.

Me neither, but cool music. I think it's about putting up a phony front (It's a put on.). Ain't we all guilty sometimes?

Doesn't eminence mean prominence or something similar?

someone around here not long ago said (apparently seriously) that he found this line in Gimmie Shelter particularly chilling:
burns like a bathroom carpet
i thought that was very touching. :E

That's a good one, with sssoul. I can hear that now that you mentioned it.

I just went to www.kissthisguy.com and I ache, I laughed so much. One of the funniest I found was an Elton John lyric, from "Tiny Dancer". The real lyirc is "Hold me closer, tiny dancer". Someone thought it was "Hold me close, I'm tryin' to dance, sir".

Here's another from the website, DaveG:

Otis Redding: (Sittin' On The) Dock of the Bay

The real lyrics were:
Sittin' here resting my bones

But I misheard them as:
Sittin' here resting my balls

(Otis, give it a rest, man!!! ha ha, I can't believe someone misunderstood this. Did anyone else hear "balls?")

One of my favourites was Kenny Rogers' "Lucille" - - I thought the lines were "you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, 400 children and no crops in the field" (the real line is "4 hungry children and a crop in the field").

I can hear that, sf37. and that's a song that gets stuck in my head very easily.

Here's another from the website:

Rolling Stones: Factory Girl

The real lyrics were:
Waiting for a factory girl

But I misheard them as:
Waiting for a fat furry girl

How about "Hold me closer, Tony Danza?" Apparently they had a good laugh about this one on Danza's talk show at some point.

Here's an annoying song I heard on the radio all the time in the mid 70's

"Magic"

(As recorded by Pilot)
DAVID PATON
BILL LYALL

Oh, ho, ho it's magic, you know
Never believe it's not so
It's magic, you know
Never believe it's not so.

.....

One of my friends thought it was Oh, ho, ho it's my dick!!, you know...

(It changes the meaning a little)

I used to think that the first lines of Elvis Presley's version of Rip It Up went like this:

"Well, it's Saturday night and I just got laid..."

A friend of mine on New Years Eve told us that in the song Panama when David Lee Roth says "I reach down between my legs...ease the seat back"

He thought that Roth said "I reach down between my legs ... YOU EASY SEABAG"

What is a SEABAG? No clue. We must have laughed for 5 minutes staright.

Great topic!!!!

Speaking of Elvis, I thought "And Marie's the name, of his latest flame" was "And the reasoning, of his latest flame"

My band used to play The Harder They Come at rehearsals.
I hadn't read the lyrics, just heard the song.
The Lyrics goes:
"Just as sure as the sun, always shines. I'm gonna get my fair share, of what sure is mine...."
I used to sing
"I'm gonna get my shit out, it sure is mine," like I was sitting at the toilet.
Suddenly the other guitar-player started laughing, and none of us could stop.
