... maybe Pierre was sent out to scout and find a very special Guild Starfire. just guessing though.

My initial idea too. Guess Keith was aware of Buddy's affinity for that model.
But we don't really know for now.

It can as well be the fact that we see here - as 'with ssoul' mentioned above - some from his hidden arsenal.

BTW I once started a thread about that hidden arsenal - the famous warehouse, you know. I heard and read so much about it over the years but alas, no one seems to know serious facts about it.

it's a very ... samurai-like thing to do. honouring the master. beautiful to see.
samurei - very true - Keith would never screw that up.

i like your idea of Keith seeking the guitar out specially as a splendid present, but
doesn't Keith say in the new Uncut interview that it's "an old favourite"?
(i'm not sure he specified *whose* old favourite, though! no no - that's me being silly again, sorry!)

righty-right, it 's pretty easy to figure out what's Buddy's fav.

ahem - any theories about that odd stripe on the ES-355 in the Vuitton ad?
a goofy photoshop idea? a band-aid? Keith's missing moustache?

It looks like a strip of tape. doesn't make sense musically, but Annie might have requested that because of some reflections from the studio-blitz.
photografical reason - I'd suspect.

nah, we would have seen Keith with it some day - No?

>>the famous warehouse<<
yeah, I loved that thread - it's so misterious - we weren't getting anywhere, nobody knows for sure.
It's so Indiana Jones & Pirates o. t. Carrebean...
big myth or just the truth - who knows

Hmm it's really interesting.. so now the question is: does Keith like the guitar so much he doesn't regularly take it out on the road but played it this night so he could give it to Buddy or is it too shitty to play regularly and did he just take it out once for the gesture?

Keith doesn't take his ES-350 on stage, and it's clearly an offstage favourite.
same with the 175: i've only seen it on stage once, in 95, but you see it in offstage shots all the time.
Keith said this Guild is "an old favourite" so ... so i guess it is.

Anyone knows why he has a bit of tape on the neck-humbucker?

audun-eg, in this thread here: [www.iorr.org]
if you scroll down a bit there's a blurry close-up of a list of what appears to be guitar names & dates.
if it's all accurate (and some of it is a bit surprising) the 355 is a 59.

as for the keith/buddy guild its probable that keith wanted a sound that would mess well with buddys- and a guitar that would nod to the stones rock n roll roots etc

it didnt appear on the night that he had planned to give the guitar to buddy (from my modle surroundings) buddy looked frankly confused!

... next slide, please!

- Hyde Park, july 5th 1969 (courtesy of the Gibson archives)

i believe Mathijs has already identified this one for us: "The picture of Hyde Park is Keith with a Gibson ES-330.
Although the shape is much like the 335/345/355 range, it doesn't have a wooden center block, making the guitar fully hollow.
This, and the P90 pickups, makes it great sounding but useless on stage, as it feedbacks too much."
Very cool! I always(because of the color and P90 p/u s)thought that this was Keiths trusty Epiphone. I never paid attention to the headstock!

okay so ... here's the ES-350T that was recently auctioned:

- oct 07 2000 (thanks BEG!), courtesy Cooper Owen Images

- courtesy of Heritage Galleries

i found the close-up on this site here:
[scoop.diamondgalleries.com]
does anyone know if the statement that Keith used this instrument during Stones concerts is accurate?

Now that's what I call cool! Johnny Johnson is to the left in that first picture. Great find with sssoul. Johnny was the man! The ES-350's were hollow bodied guitars. Some real monsters to play live with a bunch of amplification with out doing something to them (stuffing them and the like). The ES-350T's with the PAF's are simply magical.

Keith Richards 1952 Gibson ES 350 never played onstage...

The recent discussion about KR's Jones or James Telecaster in the topic some Telecaster questions gave me a reason to inform you guys about this one.
Pictured by Lisa S.Johnson in her book 108 Rock Star Guitars:

And she has a nice story about it on the deadringers.com/blog in which (good to see your name again!) Mike Cormier turns up:

I love that guitar. There are a few photos of it in the Ratbag Boogie threads about Keith's semi-hollowbody Gibsons.

I didn't even notice. I'm just passing the info which I thought is valuable :-) The book has an article about the RS as you can see in one of the preview pages here:

Lisa's quote from the Deadringers.com/blog:

"My liaison for photographing Keiths guitar was fellow Canadian Mike Cormier, Charlie Watts’ drum tech. While working with Mike, he said that the guitar had been hand-picked by Keith, and that it was a treasure never played onstage to keep from being damaged. I love this shot of Keith’s ES-350 presenting his well-worn pick guard most probably scratched with his infamous skull ring.”
