do we not have a photo of the Bolin "Tele" that Keith was given by Billy Gibbons?
it didn't hang around *very* long, but it deserves a place in this fine thread.
this one's from the 2004 R&R Hall of Fame jam (after Keith inducted ZZ Top, as you can see).
is this the only time Keith has turned up with it apart from the Licks Tour?
and: on the Licks Tour, Keith used it only for Satisfaction, right?

ah: i've unearthed a portrait of it that the gallant Mathijs once sent me,
complete with a visible "House of JB" on the headstock
(thanks Gwen for the education: House of JB was Bolin Guitars' former name)

- 2003 i suppose (courtesy of Mathijs - don't know who took it, sorry!)

I knew that's how I traced it to John Bolin a few years ago ;-)

once upon a time the good Mathijs intrigued us with this statement:

>> I have two pics of another Jesselli, used for Undercover. It resembles a Gretsch 6120. <<

with the gallant open-g's help i've finally figured out that this is the one Mathijs meant:

- Too Much Blood promo video, january 24th 1984

it's in both the Too Much Blood and Undercover promo videos -

and

-

thanks to open-g for his quick eyes and for unearthing the youtube links

and if you scroll down a bit and don't mind the misspelled caption, there's a photo of it
among the shots of the Dirty Work sessions on Bibi Farber's fascinating page: [bibifarber.com]

I met, and got to know Ted Newman-Jones, when he was brought (by mutual friend) to my little west Texas town, back in 96-97...what a trip, and a friend that guys is.
He set up a small shop in an old Hotel bldg. off main st. where he lived, up-stairs in a run-down room (like a scene from a movie about old blues men) I was hanging out with him one afternoon, and was treated to a look through his HUGE box memories. Pictures, and other odds-n-ends, he's collected over his long career. Pictures of him with EVERYONE!! and I mean EVERY legendary guitar player you can name, Ted has partied with, or built guitars for. And he LOVES to tell his stories. I've never been more impressed with a person in my whole life. And so, jealous, small towners, ran him off.
Anyway, he spent his last night in Ranger Tx, passed out on my couch (that's another long story) The next morning was just note thanking me for everything, and he was going home to Tennesee. I'd love to see old Ted again...lol..he's one trippy cat, and a MASTER Luthier.

Hey welcome aboard, Mr. Mojo_Navigator.
I'm sure it's not only me, who's interested in your long story about Ted Newman-Jones.
please go ahead and tell us more about the times you met Ted.

a new thread would be absolutely worth it and very much appreciated.

I'm all ears....ok, eyes - for it.

thanks to our cohort Palace Revolution i've realized we haven't got any shots of Keith's Music Man Silhouettes in this thread -
they're not custom jobs, of course, but they fit in the "other odd ones" category as much as the Travis Beans and DAs, so ...
so here we go! he only used them on the Winos tours and Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle, right?
how many of these did he have? the rarely-seen sunburst one, the black one, and i think
he had both white and off-white ones - or is that just the lighting making the white one look off-white (or vice versa)?

the one that got away...perhaps^^

I don't know if anything about it is true - just found it here:

Hamer Keith Richards Explorer '80, Cherry Sunburst.
The story is this, John Belushi had this one built for Keith as a gift, but it never got that far.
Supposedly there is another one floating around with Ron Wood's name on it too!

The reason you haven't seen it on stage is because it's in my closet. He gave to me about 23 years ago.

It's somewhat off-topic, Hopefully, it will be OK with With Sssoul to put up a photo of Jagger playing Keith's Armstrong here. Just thought that it was a strange sight...and new to me, before yesterday

no credits...UK 1971 ?

I'm sorry it took so long to reply, but i had to clean out my closet to get the guitar. Wrong guitar but still a custom Newman Jones. Keith gave this to me at the Columbia Record studio in NY during the Dirty Work Promos. I had won it in a radio contest (WNEW) here in NY

Wowsa! very nice.
well, my apologies for being sceptical. I thought you were kiddin' us.

one thing though - those pics don't really do justice to a nice guitar that it is.
maybe you should take some better pics outside in daylight, without flash.
big size as well, please.

...just saying.

and thanks for sharing, mate.

Are you sure it is a Newman, and are you sure it is a guitar and not a bass? How is the fifth string connected to the peg head??
