I never have read all their lyrics. I'm always discovering I've been singing the wrong words by reading posts on the site. Hence the user name. By the way, is it possible to change your user name on this site? I've tried but can't figure out how. Susan

yeah, and then puberty set in. :E

if anyone can explain "troubadours who get killed before they reach Bombay"
i would be real interested. i know what troubadours are - 13th-century France and all that -
but i have never located any semi-sensible explanation of when/why any of them would be going anywhere near Bombay.

I cracked up when I found it it was "salivate like a Pavlov dog" from Bitch.

Casino Boogie, I still have no idea what he's saying half the time, but I sing it anyway!

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I think this could be a reference to the hippie-wannabe-musicians (so sensible, so full of love) who planned their trips to India, seeking for spiritual enlightenment, but instead perished in the gutter because of bad acid, heroin and other drugs - virtually before they even reach Bombay... and Bombay is known as one of the worst towns in the world, full of poverty, dirt, prostitution and cripples

I think the "troubadours" line is a reference to Ghandi, who was assasinated on his way to Bombay.

all of that is very interesting, thanks -
but i still don't get why Mick would call hippie types, smugglers or Ghandi "troubadours".

From Beast of Burden:

Yeah, all your sickness
I can suck it up

Honestly, rather than "I can suck it up" it sounds like Mick is saying "I've been suckin d..k"

Others:

Elton John: Bennie & the Jets

"She's got electric boots" sounds like "She's got electric boobs"

The Yardbirds: For Your Love

"I'll give you diamonds bright" sounds like "I'll give you Diet Sprite"

David Bowie: Suffragette City

"Oh don't lean on me man" sounds like "I'm a mean army man"

Sure that there are plenty of others I can't immediately recall.

Yeah. "WAiting on a friend"
greetings

"when I travel coast to coast
you' re the hook I miss the most
feel on, baby"

As Tears Go By at first seemed nonsensical babble to me.

This one's funny:

Bob Dylan: "The ants are my friends, they're blowing in the wind"

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

I used to think Mick was saying " She knew me" instead of "Shidoobee" on Shattered.
