The Meters were one of the best. Saw them 5 times during the Stones tenure at Earl's Court in 76.

That´s just awesome, "Fire On The Bayou" is one of ma all-time favorite albums. The Meters were a direct influence on The Stones´ sound during that period.

I would say that the bad outweigh the good opening acts for me and the Stones:

97 - Sheryl Crow, didn't like her at the time and fell asleep
99 - Goo Goo Dolls, don't like them
Licks - I don't recall who opened the show in Hartford
Fenway - Black Eyed Peas, knew nothing about them; loved em ever since
Hartford - Maroon 5, seriously??? These guys are so popular why??
Albany - Alanis Morrisette, nuthin needs to be said
MSG 1 - does anybody remember that band? they were HORRIBLE! I think it was a local band or something. They were really young and I remember someone saying the name that night but I can't recall it now.
Hershey - Beck, a true music genius
London 2 - the Charlatans (mighta misspelled that) - who?
Foxboro - Kanye West, like Jesus Walks and nothing more. Felt bad that he was getting so booed. He was somewhat entertaining.
Churchill Downs - Alice Cooper, what a great fin choice!!

I like The Meters at Seattle '75. They were really well rec'd. Greg Khin Kingdome Seattle '81 was good, J. Geils were GREAT, in fact, better than the Stones. Peter Wolf looked like he might expire on the stage. Like a young James Brown. The Stones were just a live jukebox - boring.

The Strokes opened in Hartford in 2002.
Metric opened at MSG in 2006.

Thanks erik - you know it's funny because I knew it was the Strokes when I read the Hives, but then as I started typing them all I lost them! LOL I didn't like them either and I confused them with the Hives, so I was very excited at first to see them, and then I was devastated when it hit me that it wasn't the band I was thinking of.

Metric - that's it. God awful. Actually weren't they a Canadian band?

When was Runrig opening act for Stones?

Exactly 13 years ago today, in Schüttorf (Germany).

Don't know if they opened at any other shows.

- Bryan Adams. I've only ever actually liked one song, Cuts Like A Knife, .

Agreed. I'm totally with you on that one.

What? No love for "Summer of 69?"

No mention of Blind Melon on that site, they opened several shows for the Stones.

Also enjoyed Van Morrison in "06" as well. And probably not a popular choice amongst the Stones faithful but I also liked Susan Tedeshi with Derek Trucks in "03".

Gotta go against the prevailing opinion. I though Living Color cranked when they opened in '89. Vernon Reid is an incendiary guitarist.

By far the best I've seen was Alice Cooper at Churchill Downs in 2006.

I thought Chrissie Hynde & the Pretenders as the opening act of the Stones 2nd stop in Philly on the Licks Tour was one of the best pairings I had seen in quite some time.

That may be a good thing. Caught them at the Pittsburgh concert. Shannon Hoon kept repeating, "We're not the Rolling Stones." It got old quick.

99 Wembley & Sheffield UK; Sheryl Crow - great

02 Los Angeles; Sheryl Crow - great

02 San Francisco ; Sheryl Crow - great (fantastic on Wild Horses)

02 Oakland ; Sheryl Crow (again!)

05 Hollywood Bowl x2 ; Joss Stone (missed all her set one night and half the next!)

05 Las Vegas ; Jason Mraz (missed him)

06 LA Forum; QOTSA (missed em!)

06 Dodger Stadium; Bonnie Raitt - just ok

'97 - Blues Traveler: Very good!
'97 - Kenny Wayne Shepard: zzzzz
'99 - Goo Goo Dolls: Iris was cool to hear
'02 - The Pretenders: the best!
'05 - Black Eyed Peas: Fergie was nice to watch!
'05 - Weezer: frustrated, the actually said "the Stones are on later"
'05 - Los Lonely Boys: Say it ain't so, say it ain't so...
'06 - don't even remember
'13 - Taylor Swift as special guest: very nice

It's St. Paul & the Broken Bones for the Atlanta show.

I haven't heard of them before. Will check them out later.

All support acts, which I've seen in my Rolling Stones concerts, were good till very good. I can't complain about any.

Sh** support acts are normally in pop concerts like for Beyonce or someone else.

Arrgh. Some cities get Grace Potter, the Avetts, Brad Paisley or Kid Rock? I'm going to see Walk The Moon (Det) and Awolnation (P'burgh). At least my nineteen year old son is excited about the latter.

In addition to Buffalo, St. Paul and Broken Bones also showing they are opening in Atlanta. Listening to them on their site: Almost a Blues Brothers vibe with a little Al Green thrown in is at best I can compare.

These guys will bring a great vibe before the Stones go on in Buffalo!! Looking forward to seeing them in the sweet summer sun…….

They are awesome! Check their Letterman appearance, it's great.

Thank you for that link. I'm now very happy I chose Atlanta over Nashville.

I wouldn't be, if I were you. Brad Paisley is a major artist and a major guitar player. St Paul etc is a sort of rootsy sort of indie pickup band with a little buzz but no particular import.
