For me-1981 George Thorogood AWESOME choice, may have been the best, Journey, not the right choice, but were very popular at the time

1989- Living Color- Real good choice-Great band
1994- Counting Crows- Ok, not bad, were real hot at the time
1994-Blind Melon- Not as good as the others
1997-
1999-The Coors-great choice, lot of fun
2002- The Pretenders in Philly-great catalog and good show, they were good as openers for the Who four years later
2003-Ryan Adams-ugh, fell asleep
2005-Beck- Not bad, pretty good actually
2006-Avril...not bad
2013-Worst opening act...there was none...although I got stuck hearing Dead Flowers with Brad Paisley, pluueeeezzzzzzz. There is a giant photo on the wall in the mezzanine concourse of Ronnie, Mick, and the Paisley one. Wanted to scratch him out.

My faves I have heard about at the moment are Buddy Guy and Ed Sheeran.

To go from playing in a mate of mines band ,Adam Wedd, now and again, to opening for The Rolling Stones is great for Ed.

Hope he get's a chance to play a song with The Stones in Kansas City.

Noticed he is the only Brit I think among the openers.

Have to agree. Oh well drink cheap beer at the hotel a little longer and walk the halls of the stadium people watching a little longer! Taking my 19 year old son. Asked him what he thought of him. He said did not like him and none of his buddies do either. So wondering what age group he attracts

He attracts 19-year old girls, not boys.
I know because I am a 19-year old girl. I think he's talented but personally my tastes are not in the One Direction/Taylor Swift vein that he belongs to. However, I do know other people who like him.

Actually that's a great choice for KC. they are having trouble selling
tickets and he'll bring in the college crowd, maybe the kids of Parents already going. It's a smart move.

Some of my opening acts:

1994: Bryan Adams - Atlanta - I was not excited to see him because he was ballad heavy at that point but wisely left all but one off the setlist and gave a rocking set aimed at the fans in attendance.

1997: Blues Traveler - Columbus - I would not go see them by themselves but enjoyed hearing their big hits in a short set.

1999: Goo Goo Dolls - Charlotte - My friends were bored to death but I had the album with Iris on it so I knew almost every song.

2002: No Doubt - Atlanta - I really enjoyed them the most and it was probably at their peak in popularity.

2015: St. Paul & The Broken Bones - Atlanta - I'm just discovering them and looking forward to it.

Down right family affair then...Hmm. Not sure what to think about that selection since I've never actually heard the chap, but I assume you are right about the effort to sell more tickets.

OK I just checked him out...along with 493,812,482 other YouTube viewers. wtf? Doesn't seem a good match for the Stones so now I'm definitely thinking this is a ticket marketing ploy.

peace

Lets hope they add 4-5 openers for Indy and make a good ole 4th July picnic

Man that sounds like torture...be kool if I was 16...Just the Stones please...Just the Stones

If it is just the Stones there is no reason to have a 1PM gate.

Concessions, my friend.

I like some of Eds' music and know of the appeal to youngsters, but would much prefer the expense of support act to go to Mick Taylor and have him on 3 songs.

Not gonna happen in stadiums as I can see the sense of another act as maybe an incentive to sell tix to some casual Stones fans. Even non fans who know a few Stones songs and like the support act.

Kid Rock?

My god, poor suckers in Columbus.

I think i will throw up now...

Between the horrible opening act and the horrible venue this is definitely one of the two or three least desirable stops on the tour.

I can't @#$%& WAIT for Columbus!
Second stop will be special.

@#$%& the haters.

Kid Rock is extremely talented and he's an unbelievably great entertainer.
His band absolutely KICKSASS! Real musicians playing real music.
Trust me on this. He is the perfect opener.

ROCK ON COLUMBUS.

I'd probably go to see Avett...Gary Clarke Jr...not so sure...

Kid Rock? No chance.

St. Paul I'd see...but not sure I'd see as the opener...I do prefer to party pre-Stones...but Avett might be good enough to see...not sure any others...(as an opener, not on their own).

Toots is the only opener that I saw that I really enjoyed (starsailor...really?). I've seen S. Crow a zillion times...and not once by choice...

Agree with you sdstonesguy - didn't Toots open back in San Diego during ABB Tour?
And Starsailor at Twickenham during Licks tour was boring beyond imagination - watching paint dry would have been more exciting.
Sheryl Crow haha...she was almost everywhere during Licks American leg, it was as if she was stalking me haha.

Saw Toots open in Rotterdam...don't remember him opening San Diego...but I may have foolishly (this time) skipped the opener...but I do love me some Toots.

Saw Pearl Jam once...Oakland opener...convinced me I wasn't missing anything...

I actually enjoyed the Starsailor set in '06. In '07 not so much, as we expected Amy Winehouse, who was hungover back at the hotel.

...so many different opinions on which openers are good and which ones are not... it is almost like different people have different opinions on different things. Maybe they should have gotten an act that everyone loves, an uncontroversial artist like Kanye West, Ted Nugent, Nickelback or Dave Matthews.

Just did a little research via IORR, and Toots indeed played at Petco as well at Anaheim during ABB. > warmup acts
And Rotterdam - I was also at those shows, but memories tend to blur after seeing so many shows and enjoying the comforts of Dutch hospitality. smoking smiley
I saw 27 shows during Licks (stadiums/arenas/clubs&theaters) in America and Europe, a journey that I'll cherish forever, but will obviously never happen again.
