Does the Rolling Stones could do a remote live from that secret gig at the theater on May 20th as the final musical guest on Letterman ?

Thanks Montreal1... I was going to post similar..
After we just chatted on Twitter?? cool smiley

I think it's got real potential..
Only drawback is that Dave tapes at like 2:30pm LA time...

Could still be though... Mike

When is the final night of letterman? I assume Bill Murray will be the final
guest as he was the first guest. I could see Bill Murray being MC at the stones
show if this was the case. He was a spectacular MC at the Crossroads shows.

Bill Murray is scheduled for Tuesday along with Bob Dylan...
which got me thinking about the Stones possibility..

Dave's last night is Wednesday.
The rumored special gig night.

The last night guest for Letterman is still un-announced.

I think Wednesday is a real possibility then. Actually a very good possibility.
Tuesday will be great with Bob Dylan and Bill Murray! I think the Letterman show
Tapes in the afternoon though unless it is live the last week.

It does tape in the afternoon.. (2:30ish)
I still think it has potential though.. Not like they aren't playing during rehearsals at 2:30 in the afternoon..

An early special gig is my guess.

*Eddie Vedder and Tom Hanks are Mondays guests..

That is a coup that I don't think Letterman will pull off, but I really hope he does. Was MJ ever on the show? I recall Jerry Hall being on a really long time ago, and they phoned and spoke to Mick during her segment.

That would be @#$%& awesome.

A few days ago he had Tom Waits:

This is a very interesting thought but do you think that it would make sense logistically? It requires not only to fly them all out to NY but also part of their equipment for only one or two songs in total? I have no idea how much work (and cash) would be required to do this, so this is just a question for people who do

Mick was on atleast once, during the Brooklyn and Newark concerts. He read the Top Ten List.

Besides the fact that they hardly ever do television and have never appeared on Letterman as a band, there is one thing: the time Charlie Watts walked off the Letterman show.

He was scheduled some years back to appear with one of his jazz combos, but walked off, 5 minutes before taping, when he was told that he would have to play with Letterman's house band instead of his own.

That was in 1993, but Charlie didn't blame the host and later, in 1996, appeared on the show, being allowed that time to play with his own band (with Bernard Fowler on vocals).

The Billboard awards are in Vegas though not NYC

edit: just realized I was looking at an old link. Nothing saying they're up for any awards this year

Bette Midler is confirmed ?

Nothing's been confirmed for May 20.

Bette Midler was on Johnny Carson's last "Tonight Show".

Ok.. Was just a thought...

Mick did the Top Ten list (I attended Letterman the day before.. caught Bill Murray) after the Brooklyn and before the Newark shows.

I wasn't suggesting that they appear live at the Ed Sullivan Theater...
I was speculating a "live -remote" from LA...
(afternoon for the Stones, prior to the special gig or during if its an early one)

If Bette has now been announced the probability diminishes..
Was a cool thought though.. for a bunch of reasons.

If they didn't... they should have. smoking smiley

10. “Nobody wants to hear anything from your new album.”
9. “Never take relationship advice from Phil Spector.”
8. “Before shouting ‘Hi Seattle!’ make sure you’re in Seattle.”
7. “You don’t earn a cent when someone does a song about having moves like Jagger.”
6. “Everybody you meet after you become famous is only interested in you as a person.”
5. “Song royalties are great, but even they can’t match the guaranteed cash flow of a reverse mortgage.”
4. “A good way to keep yourself entertained is to sign every 10th autograph ‘Doris Goldblatt.’”
3. “Be considerate of other hotel guests — trash your room by 10 p.m.”
2. “You can’t always get what you want — like a good joke on the top ten list.”
1. “You start out playing rock ‘n’ roll so you can have sex and do drugs. But you end up doing drugs so you can still play rock ‘n’ roll and have sex.”

No musical guests have been confirmed on Letterman's last night...I still hope for The Stones !

No guests have been confirmed, period.

The fact that Bill Murray (first guest on both the NBC and CBS shows) is on Tuesday night suggests that Wednesday could be the retrospective hinted at by CBS - "the hour will be filled with surprises, highlights, and of course one last Top 10 List."

That would be awesome but I've got a feeling the last musical guest will be an American artist...although with Keith in CT and Mick and Ronnie having homes in NY I like to think they are more American than English these days. Charlie seems to be the most English of the four of them.

Would be a good question for them...What country do you most feel you are a citizen of ? Excluding legalities of course.

peace

I'm in two minds about a live show in LA somewhere or being shown on TV .

Live show in small club/theatre is normal for a small gig after a long lay off,but only 6 months or so since last gig in NZ.

TV appearance even for an edited 3 or 4 songs out of a dozen played, with an audience of millions may be a good ticket seller, but I think every Stones gig is a financial success.

A win,win situation either way for The Rolling Stones.

Ronnie sold his NYC place years ago. He wrote about it in his book.

I'd be delighted, but I think the odds are against it.

Don't they use their club shows as kind of a final dress rehearsal, maybe with deeper cuts, and of course, a small audience?
