Here's a pretty straightforward cover by Rich Robinson (Black Crowes).

Moonlight Mile 3 - 4 Winter (after extra time). It's not that one is better than the other, they're both masterpieces. But I'll give it to Winter on the strength of Taylor's playing and the 'bed, book and candle' imagery. It has a special place in my heart.

I thought it was 'bell, book and candle.' Love Winter but MM is a step above.

I love both...But MM shows why the Rolling Stones are the
best of the best----No other band could ever do a track
like that!

Extremely close, but I guess it will be Winter because it's a tad more melancholic and because it lead to two incredible versions with Carla Olson and Taylor.

Both certainly among the most beautiful ballads the Stones ever recorded.

Two versions? I've got the one off Ring of truth....where's the other?....TIA..

Here you go Eddy:

Cheers Kleermaker, thanks alot...

The first one, is the same as the version I have on the 1CD Ring of truth, so I guess they changed it when they released the 2CD Too hot for snakes.....

Mind you "Blood Red Wine" (Beggars Banquet- 1968-1969 outtake/song) already has the classic "I'll wrap my coat around you" lyrics from WINTER (1973).

Tough call, but I'll put my money down on MM. It is such a beautiful song to listen to laying your head down between some very good speakers (about 6 - 8 foot apart) or through good headphones. The vibe and sound of MM just takes you somewhere else whether you are straight or riding the waves.

Moonlight mile, again by a Moonlight Mile!

Not to take anything away from the fine covers posted, but, imo, nothing compares to the originals...and I can't choose either. Okay, maybe Moonlight Mile by a few feet or so. Probably have to go into overtime on this one.

Couldn't agree more. Without Mick's voice and the band, the songs become something different, for better or worse – especially the latter.

I know MM is the masterpiece but no I have to go with my heart on this. Sure it's "cheaper" maybe even sleazy, so what. Have a listen to this. Another version. Thank you Anthony R. for uploading.

It's the same version, Carpet. Even the same microphone bleeding from earlier vocal takes smiling smiley

There is a short loop in the intro, though, but that's added later - for some reason. Some strange EQ-ing, to push the strings forward to overshadow Taylor.

This is someone toying with the track in their home studio later on.

I prefer the Olson-Taylor versions, because of the extremely soulful, lyrical and melancholic guitar playing. But it would be ideal if the Olson vocals could be replaced with Jagger's vocal in the original style.

Love, love both but have to go with MM. It's a shame now with Taylor apparently gone, when it was on the fanvote a couple of times in 2013. Would have been interesting to see if he would have played on it, and what.

Winter has strong performances from Jagger and Taylor As a song, though, I find Moonlight Mile both more moving and more original.
